Default Engine Replacement

Unfortunately, my 94 es 300 needs a new engine. Pretty bummed since the vehicle only has 139k.

My plan is to buy a manual, another motor and swap the engine myself. I have two friends that are willing to help.

After I swap the engine, we were going to tow it to the shop and let the shop set the timing.

Any advice? Thoughts? What should I look out for?

I am still trying to decide. Please convince me one way or another. I really do not want to spend 4k paying someone to fix.

The wife has my truck and I want it back.

Thanks for your assistance,

matt

Because the 94-96 1MZ-FE Camry and ES300 were not offered in a manual tranny version, your option would be to upgrade to a 97-01 Camry 1MZ-FE and the manual tranny for that engine. But going that route, you would have to basically replace everything engine wise i.e. ECU, wiring harness and etc which will only add up to the cost. Your safest bet is to just find a 94-96 1MZ-FE or rebuild what you have and keep the tranny.

like he said it is a real pain in the ssa to change
but is possible to rebuild your engine then swap the older 5 spd tranny
are you thinking of doing this or are actually going to do thisif you are prepared to pass gall stones then a guy by the name of ratko on toyota nation
has swapped his 94 camry same engine and droppped in the older 5 spd tranny
go to
www.toyotanation.com
do a search there

and you should find all the answers to your nightmare
good luck

Don't forget to address the issues he's still having with his CEL staying on and a few other things.
