Default Shocks recommendation?

I'm looking to replace my shocks and was wondering which shocks I should get? I have lowering springs installed and would like a stiffer ride

I also may be interested in this. So far all I've seen are the OEM replacement shocks from Monroe, Gabriel, KYB...etc. I've put KYBs on my other cars and been happy, but I'm also looking for other options.

I've heard the KYB struts are stiffer than the stock Lexus struts.

Furthermore, if you get springs from a 2004-2006 Camry SE V6, it should bolt right up and they'll be stiffer.

I didn't know that about the Camry struts being stiffer.

Yeah the KYB OEM-replacements are supposedly valved to be 10-15% stiffer than stock to account for worn suspension components. At least that's what I've heard in the Subaru world. I've never lowered a car so I don't know how they would fair...though I know people use Gr-2/Excel-Gs in conjunction with lower springs (GOOD ones) on Subarus for a budget suspension upgrade.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll end up going maybe with Camry struts and Tanabe lowering springs on mine.

Are those 19" wheels? I was planning on going to 18" at most. Roads aren't forgiving around here. Really nice looking car though, perfect wheel gap...except for it rubbing I guess, lol.

Thanks! They are 19's. If replacing the shocks won't help me then I will most likely switch to 18's. My tires are getting eaten up

What would you recommend, KYB or Camry shocks? I would like it as stiff as possible.

If you want stiff as possible you could always go the coilover route. I would think the kyb would be stiffer than a stock camry strut.

For what you are trying to do, I do not think that the KYB (I am using them) shocks will provide enough extra stiffness to do what you want - reduce dampening to limit suspension travel. They are barely stiffer than stock units and feel about the same after a few thousand miles.

There are very few strut choices for these cars.

Note: speedkar9 said Camry SPRINGS, not shocks.

There are very few choices for anything for this car, not really a popular or well supported modding platform. We are lucky to even have the option of coilovers and sway bars.

Having said that, Oro, are you happy with the kyb struts as a replacement? I will need new struts soon, I'm not looking to gain any stiffness or anything like that, if anything I want a smoother ride. I just want a good quality strut that will last

Dbtbee, please do follow up with your thoughts on KYBs. I have always used them on my Honda's, as I was told that KYB was OEM for Honda and Toyota.

It's been forever since I actually had OEM struts still on any vehicle of mine, but as I recall, putting new KYBs simply brought the ride (most control) back to the vehicle.

I just finished installing the rear KYB shocks. KYB shocks are the way to go! They provided me the OEM feel, times 2. I would recommend these shocks! The ride is stiff and smooth.

Cool, glad it worked out for you. Planning on doing the fronts as well?
