Do 2001 ES parts fit 1997 ES300?
Hi,
I just want to know if I can upgrade my 1997 ES300 front bumper, rear tail lights, and front grille to the new look 2001 ones. I think the body is the exact same otherwise, besides the three parts listed previously, so they should fit. Just like the tail lights, front grille, and lots of interior parts that were changed in the 2003 GS430 fit into the 1998 GS400.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, so the tailights will swap fine, and I don't need the "assembly" right? Just the lens and body since I already have everything on my current 97 anyway? With my GS400, all I had to do is basically unplug old ones and "plug and play" with the new ones, is it that simple with the ES300 too?
Also, what about the front grille and front bumper?

please try using the "search" box up top. it's there for a reason.
but there have been quite a few threads over this in the past. try searching for them, i'm sure qutie a few will show up.
actually, sk, i'm not sure if anyone actually proved that the '00-'01 tail lights were a perfect swap to the '97-'99
someone said they saw it on another ES, but i'd have to hear that someone actually got both sets and got it on perfectly to believe it.

not to my recollection. there have been "sightings" but not sure if they were actual swaps.
don't think anyone really has the funds to go randomly buy another set of tail lights to see if they fit.

Well, I risked my funds and tried it....it works! I have a 1997 Lexus ES300 and wanted to make it look "newer." The ONLY exterior differences between the 1997 ES300 and the 2001 ES300 are:
1. The front grill (it has more chrome, and the lines are shaped differently).
2. The front bumper (it has different lines again, pointier in the middle, looks sharper).
3. The front foglights (they have clear lenses, looks much sharper).
4. The rear tailights (the big clear reverse lamp that goes all the way through the light).
I bought all those 2001 ES300 parts and they ALL fit the 1997 ES300...so now my 1997 ES300 looks like a 2001! :-)
....ofcourse it did cost a lot, but for me it was worth it.
It makes sense that new and "changed" parts would fit older models as long as the body panels aren't changed of the new car haven't changed.
Car manufacturers want to give a new look to the car, but don't want to spend tons of money changing entire body panels, so they use the old car, and just change some "easy" things, such as the lights, grill, bumper, etc. That's what the did with the GS in 2001 and that's what the did to the ES in 2001 also.
