The dealer diagnosed that the dogbone engine mount in my car is broken. I've read that it is easy to replace and it does look very accessible.However, I am a bit concerned that if I get the mount off, the engine might move/shift making it hard to put the bolts back on for the new mount? Is this a silly thought?

Any pointers would be really helpful. Original mounts for my vehicle (2002 model) are available for under $70, so it would be great if I could finish this up myself.

Well if like mine, it is easy enough, just take care not to round off the bolt heads. Use a BFS to pry it into place. No worries there are 3 other mounts keeping the engine in place.

 

Thank you for responding. What is a BFS? Also, just for peace of mind -- if for some reason, I am unable to put the new mount in, will it be possible to drive 3-4 miles (w/o the dogbone installed) to a mechanic?

 

Replaed mine last year and had the same concern that you do. Nothing to worry about. The new mount will go back very easily. The engine will not move.

But if you're till worried that you won't be able to fit the new one back in, you can always drive it to a garage without the dog mount installed.
