Thumbs up Catalytic Converter

Is there anything I should consider before buying an aftermarket catalytic converter? I already took into account size and ceramic vs. metallic. I also found this one online and it looks like it will fit for a weld-on application.

Please give me your feedback, as any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you should consider that some Aftermarket Cat converters, may not be compatible with your Evap system and O2 sensors, and could trigger the Chek Engine light.

Maybe someone on this forum tat as had experience with an aftermarket cat converter for your particular model year can chime in with his experience.

I also made sure this one is OBDI compatible and doesn't have any O2 sensor holes.

I got an aftermarket from a muffler shop installed about 5 years ago. It was about $275. I've had no problems with it. Had it installed in a Honda Accord. It was a generic welded in. If you're in CA you better be sure it's the correct one for smog purposes. I left it up to the shop to install the correct one. The Honda one was around $1000. I only got 85K out of the original one so I figured I'm way ahead at this point. Tom

Wait, if you have a 1994 then you do have O2 Sensors and ODBII.

Yeah I know. I'm in Texas though so I don't have to worry about it.

I dunno, I just checked my stock converter and didn't see any sensors (maybe they're on the top and I just missed them). But I just did some research and it turns out that even though the general rule is 1995 and up, the 1994 Lexus ES300 was one of the first cars ever to switch to OBDII. So you're right, thanks.

After reading worldforgo's post I realized that I do have OBDII, and therefore I must have O2 sensors in the converter. I'm assuming I only have 1, so I searched a little more and found this one instead (exactly the same but with an O2 port):

Can anyone tell me if the converter I linked to above will be compatible?
