Default 1st oil change on 03. What kind of oil (weight) and how much?

I don't have the manual with me but I need to change the oil on my wifes new (to her) 03 ES300. It's got 70k miles and I'm thinking of going with full synthetic to extend the oil change intervals. What do you guys think about going full synthetic at this point in the cars life, benefits or no? Also, how many quarts of oil does this car take? And what weight oil does Toyota suggest? If you have a link or can point me to the right direction to find the answers to these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Cool

The car will take 5W 30....if you don't have any leaks currently, your good to go & switch to synthetic. Your ES will take 5 qt's with the oil filter. Stay clear of Fram filters as well. Good luck.

Thanx for the quick response. I usually use Napa filters.

I couldnt have said it better. I personally use Mobil Clean 5000 5w-30 its not synthetic, but I changed it every 3k miles. I use WIX oil filters.

Hello! I just bought a 2002 es300 from my aunt and uncle in March 'cause it was in Stupid-awesome, almost new condition (of course I love it!). I'm about to do my first oil change this weekend and was just wondering why the advice to stay way from FRAM? I always used FRAM on my old car (Honda Civic).

What do you all suggest instead? K&N? Bosch? Mobile1? MicroGuard?
As far as parts, I usually bounce b/t Advanced, Pep Boys, Napa, & O'Reillys.

Thanks!

The budget Fram filters have been known to be poorly constructed. They lacks certain high quality components, such as a metal core - depends on the design. As far as I know, their ExtraGuard series is on par with the best. Having said that, I've been brain washed to stay away from FRAM, so I tend to use OE filters. When I did go with aftermarket, I've used WIX, MANN, K&N, and Mobil 1.

+1, also Purolator is a good brand. Both Classic and PureOne are very well built filters.
