Smile Something ive noticed about my ES

Ive always noticed when i start the engine on my 92 when its already up to temp the rpms jump way up to like 2500 rpm then resumes normal idle. Maybe its a 3VZ thing but i was just curious if any other second gen'rs are familiar with this.

I think they all do that.

mine does that, especially when its cold in the morning. when the engine temp is already up (say you stopped for gas), mine revs up a little and settles to idle at around 700rpm real quick.

not mine. I think at most at shoots up to 1500rpm then it drops to 700-800 then eventually settles at 500rpm. I know i have very low idle. Tried cleaning IAC, throttle body, and seafoamed. Didn't help at all. Oh well, i used to be scared that this idle would cause problems but i've been driving for two years without any problems due to low idle.

Well the high idle when the engine is cold is normal. Mine will hold 1800-2000 for a minute then slowly creep down to 700. But like when i stop at the store and restart the engine it jumps right up to 2500 then back down to 700 within2 or 3 seconds. It dosent hold the high rpm, just spikes it. I dont consider it to be a problem just wondering if anybody elses does this.

Maniax how is your ignition system performing and are there any vacuum leaks? You could have a bad plug or cap or rotor, or your timing is way off.

92es5spd, mine does the same when it's warm, I don't think it is a problem at all.

Count me in as well. When I start it cold it goes up to about 1600 rpm and slowly drops as it warms up. But when I restart it after it's already warmed up, it goes to 2500 rpm and then quickly drops to normal idle level. I've been wondering myself, after recently getting the coolant temperature sensor replaced, if this is normal. But from what I'm reading here is that it is completely normal.

Never performed any tests on the coil. No vacuum leaks, spark plugs in good condition, new cap and rotors, just got the timing belt done yesterday!

So a weak spark from the coil will cause low idle?

I didn't because many ppl told me that these cars' idles are controlled electronically by the ECU and cannot be adjusted manually
