Default Concern about high start-up idle

I've had high idle at cold start for about a year now. It only happens when the car has sat overnight though and it idles at about 1800 RPM until it warms up for about 5-8 minutes. I would really like to have this fixed if possible!!

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? Has anyone had experience with this???

Just curious, did you clean your throttle body recently?

this is normal AFAIK
the computer is programmed to do this in cold weather to warm up the engine quickly

Yep, it's perfectly normal. It's to let the engine warm up quicker as UberNoob said. Also, when you drive your car with the engine still cold it sits in 3rd gear for a while until the engine is warmed up.

My car never idles about 1200 no matter how cold it is. It dropes under 1000 1-2 min. later.

i learn something new everyday about the gs.

i travel nationally for work every other week and i always get a rental car at whatever city i'm in a noticed that american cars don't do that. neither do camry's from my recollection. so i was thinking there must be something wrong with my car.

once i start it in the morning it revs at about 1200 (like a normal car or so i thought) for a second and then the rpms slowly climb to 1800 almost 2000. and then it drops slowly ofcourse... how odd...

but i am glad it's normal!

As for cleaning my throttle body, it was recently cleaned.

I had a hunch. I cleaned my throttle body back in July of last year, and for the next few months, it idled really high at start up. After a few months, it calmed down and now it's back to a more normal range. Give it a few months and I'm sure the rpms will drop back down. As others have stated, the fact that it's cold also makes a difference as well.

It's not unusual for this to happen. My car does the same thing. It idles around 1.5k for like a minute then it slowly drops. By then again, I'm in socal so its not as blistering cold as some places, although we have been getting cold weather (for our standard )

if you want your car to idle normal ... you can reset your ecu after a throttlebody clean... it will help it go back to normal quicker
