Question Conflicting information

I have been looking into a used engine as a alternative to selling my car as there are head gasket or cracked head issues as well as ck engine codes... The problem is that I'm getting two different stories... One guy says he has a used 3vzfe camry motor from japan... Another says the 3vzfe was for U.S. only that the other guys engine is from a wrecking yard here in the States... Does anybody know the truth?

For what it's worth:

From the Lexus ES entry on Wikipedia:
Second generation (1992-1996)

The ES 300 sported a 185 hp 3.0 L V6 engine and had an advertised 0-60 time of 8.0 seconds. In Japan, a 172 hp, 2.5 L version of the Windom (VCV-11) was made available in October 1993.

Engine(s)
1992-1993
3.0L 3VZ-FE V6
1994-1996
3.0L 1MZ-FE V6
So there was a Japan-only engine with the VCV-11, but the 3VZ-FE was available for both markets.

Swifty562 just installed a JDM 3VZ-FE in his US ES and observed the following differences:

i just swaped the wire harness...manifold sensor..my alternator... from the USDM to the JDM.
oh yeah i swap the oil pan also... used oem toyota silocone =) ..

reason being is because the JDM oil pan does not have a oil level sensor..so i switch off....

My car is a 92 and I got the 3VZ-FE from tigerjapanese like swifty did (got mine a few weeks before he did when the price was higher >.< ) Obviously it was Toyota branded, not Lexus, but they're the same engine with minor differences, all of which is easily rectified by using it from your current engine. Look up swifty's post, it has more information now and pictures. Honestly I'd rather get the JDM than the salvage. At least you know it has less mileage. Almost everything was original on my JDM, except the timing belt.

The only thing thats different on a Lexus 3VZ VS a Toyota 3VZ is the logo on the engine cover.
