Default Engine Dies...Help!

I have a 2000 ES 300 that sporadically stops running. It seems to happen most often when it has sat all night and I start it up and drive a short distance, (to the store, 1/2 mile or maybe a mile or two). I shut it off and then when I try to start it, it will start only if I put the pedal to the floor while I'm cranking the engine. If I want to drive right away then I have to hold my foot on the brake while giving it gas at the same time, when I come to a stop in order for it to stay running. Otherwise, I have to sit for a while revving up the engine. After about four or five minutes it will stay running on it's own. If I didn't know better I would think that I have a vacuum problem. That does not seem feasible to me. Anyone out there having dealt with this before?

Phoenix! Thanks for the response!!! I'll clean the throttle body asap! As for as checking for vacuum leaks, the only thing I can think of is to spray some type of aerosol in and around the engine as it is running and listen for it to rev higher. That would tell me cheap and quick, don't you think?

Thanks again, Rob

Haha, I had a vacuum leak and I just duct taped most of the rubber intake hose that atttached to the throttle body and that fixed the problem. So now I'm going to remake my intake without the rubber hose.
