Default Cleaned IACV now car won't stay started

My fiance had cleaned the IAC and now it wont stay started. I turn the key and wants to start but shuts off and smells like gas. It ran fine before cleaning it beside sometime it would shake bad when it sat to long so he figured cleaning it would help. Everything was pluged back in and put together. Used CRC throttle cleaner.

Default ???

Was the engine running when he cleaned it or was it shut off? Did he spray it before the mass air flow sensor or after? If the engine was off and he just sprayed it into the throttle bore than I suggest holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor than cranking the engine over for no more than five seconds. if it doesn't start than have a qualified technician diagnose it. do not start throwing parts at it.

I hope MAF was not sprayed with the cleaner!

If it was IACV only, you may like to reset the ECU to relearn the right settings by going to default.
