Default Fram AIR filter

I need to change my air filter. Are frams any good? I would never use their oil filters but I don't know anything about air filters. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Cool

All air filters are a joke. No one has any more performance than any other.
That being said. Fram is notorious for everyhting with their name on it being ****.

Buy a generic, or oem air filter for $10-15 & change it every 2 years.

I use the Wix 460147 which is $15.99 at the local O'reilly auto parts store.
They also make good oil filters which I've been using for many years on everything from
Mustangs,Camaros,Corvettes,Trucks and SUV's.

I'm also using the Wix filter for my '01. I think I paid around $14.99 for it (at the local distributor warehouse). The Toyota dealership stocks their air filters for around $22 each

Only people dumb enough to believe the marketing hype. I can say that. I bought one years ago.
For the cost of 1 K&N filter + the re-charge kit. You could buy enough normal filters for 8-10 years of driving & have a new filter every other year. Instead of an old *** filter that is all hype to begin with.

K&N Anything is nothing. It's all marketing, BS & Hype. Extreme profit by that company on anything they sell.

Any filter minus K&N, FRAM, or Lexus.

I am going to give my 2 cents on K&N air filters.

At my high altitude, I did feel a noticeable, but not stronger punch in the acceleration over the OEM filter. At sea level, I felt absolutely no difference. Is a K&N filter a good idea...for the money I would say no, but you have to be the judge on that and how you to decide to mod your vehicle.

K&N DOES SUCK! The stupid oil gets clogged up in your motor. Then your engine light goes on. If you switch back to the stock, the light would go off in a bit. So stock filters is just the way to go if you want a longer engine life.

Does anyone else have a problem with a parts store replacement filter being difficult to re-install? In our 2002 ES300 it seems that it's very difficult to get the filter compartment to "buckle down" properly (it's hard to work with at best) with the non Lexus filters...

I did get the problem with the K&N oil on my MAF. My solution was to remove the oil and only reoil the front of the K&N. This helped.

In our RX300s, we also have a problem with buckling down and it actually lets in the warm air from the engine. I used to wrap duct tape around the middle of my airbox due to this.

K&N is not a bad air filter, but then again I can't say there is one that stands out.

However, in other vehicles that I toy with at my uncle's garage and we later take out to the track or we have dynoed by our friends near the track, there is a slight and I mean slight gain in the hp department, but nothing to write home to momma about. However, if the air filter is all the money you have or you are burdened down by emissions, I wouldn't say no to one offhand, just don't expect gobs of power.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for power, I'm just looking for one that will be at least equivelant to the stock one.

Cool

Pantyhose with vasoline on them will filter about as much as a K&N filter will.
Not that filtration means anything in the first place. Just keep rocks out of the thing ROTFLMAO
