Antifreeze smell in 2017 CT
So I've had my 2017 CT F sport for about 10 days. I love everything about it, but when we turn on the heater, there is a very strong odor of what my husband identifies as antifreeze. There are no leaks under the car. The odor is prevalent when the recirculate/cabin air is on, not the fresh air intake. We're taking it to the dealer on Monday. Has anyone else had this happen? And is it a big repair to fix? Thanks for all comments and help!
Norrnally the smell of antifreeze that's noticeable in the cabin is due to a heater core. The dealer will obviously take care of this under warranty, so no worries. Let us know what transpires.
We took the car to the dealer this morning. They tried to tell us that it was just "new car smell" but this is my 3rd. Lexus and trust me, I know what a new car smell is and this isn't it. Finally we insisted that an actual service tech/mechanic drive it and he smelled it. He did a little research and found a HVAC Odor Maintenance service notice that included my car. He took out the old paper air filter and put in one that is a "high performance" filter with charcoal. This has noticeably diminished the odor. At least we know it's not antifreeze leaking.
