Default ECVT Surging?

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on getting a CT this weekend (yaaaaay) and last night I took one out for another test drive, just to settle things in my mind. While I was driving, I noticed that it was continually surging -- nothing dramatic, just a little bit. Like I was tapping on the gas or something. I was going a pretty steady 30-35mph.

I don't remember noticing that when I test drove the CT for the first time: is it always there or did it happen to be that particular car I was driving last night? My first test drive was a base model CT; last night was an F-Sport.

This will be my first automatic transmission car so I unaccustomed to not having total control of my car.

I haven't experienced anything like the "surging" you describe, nor have I seen any postings about it. Do you recall what drive mode you were in at the time (i.e., Eco, Normal, or Sport)? I always use the Sport mode.

maybe it was the gas engine kicking in? the CT can run up to 45mph on electric if it's a coasting type drive with minimal acceleration. but of course the gas engine kicks in if the battery is low or if it senses you need a little more juice (i.e., on an incline).

my experience though is that the hybrid system is extremely seamless and invisible. i can't recall what i thought of it when i first got it, but almost three years later i don't feel the gas engine come on. and even if i do, it's not really a "surge".

perhaps the salesperson had it on sport, in which case the pedal response is much faster and will be a little jumpier.

I'm not sure what mode I was driving in -- whatever it was left in, that's the mode I drove off the lot in! It wasn't a speed surge; it's like I could feel the car pulling a little. It was very steady, every 10 seconds or so. It's good to hear that it should be a seamless experience -- that makes me think that maybe that car in particular had something going on with it because, like I said, I did not remember experiencing that on my initial test drive.

No surging for me. The engine will shut down though if you are coasting or on the brakes coming to a stop. You can hear it more than feel it.
Steady state mine just purrs along, I have tried cruise control as well and it just drives along smooth as can be.
It's a 2014 F Sport.

So did you end up buying a ct? Does it surge like the test vehicle?
