NEW Lexus IS300 Engine Cut Out on 294
Driving my new IS300 yesterday on NB 294 about 3 miles south of Lake Cook when suddenly I could no longer accelerate and had to pull onto the shoulder. Turned off the car and tried to re-start the engine but would just sit and crank. Had to get it towed to Arlington Lexus where they are looking at it now.
I wasn’t driving “hard” - sport mode at about 85 MPH. High-ish RPMs but nothing crazy.
What the hell would cause this to happen? I had a half tank of gas and it wasn’t running hot. No smells of any kind. The engine just quit. The service manager told me that I could be a fuel pump but at 5,000 miles that would be pretty surprising.

Oh man what a fiasco.
MIce had nested in my engine compartment and above my gas tank. The fuel relay wire was chewed through and as a result my gas gauge wasn’t accurate. As a result, my engine cut out because I ran out of gas although my tank showed half full. In short, 600 bucks later to clean mice nests, fix wire, and I am back in business.
