Default remote start DIY install

Who's done one? Think I will be keeping the beater/grocery getter and looking to install a keyless entry/remote start only. No need for an alarm.

Found a few on eBay and a few other sites just looking to see who has done them and has any advice. If it takes a few days its no biggie. Also any feedback with using one of the OEM keys. My keyless entry battery is dead so this will help with both since no one seems to be able to cut/program a new BMW key unless you order from the factory for almost $300 per key

I thought you take your cars to MarkSound?

I wouldn't want to do a DIY on a BMW,

I do, this is for my beater so just want to try it myself. I already have it just haven't taken the time to install it. If this was going on a different car then yes it would go to Mark. This car, given its purpose, isn't worth even installing a remote start to be honest.

I have done several DIY on the BMW so far. Its not that hard to work on. Just need to know what your doing

i do remote starts every single day t my shop, beaters to luxury . and you are correct! all you need to know is what you are doing, european vehicles are the most pita to do, me and my other installer did a 2008 bmw 528i push to start,
and it needed a ton of parts to get the job done, but in the end the job was done and costed the owner around $1,500 for a vioper 5704 with smartstart. all cars are different and some are more time consuming than others, but they all can be done. ive been doing them since 1993. not to brag or anything but check out my google reviews here... https://plus.google.com/116551295963...06/about?hl=en

ahhh. a responder 1 button..nice unit for sure. i dont sell those alot, people in my area want keyless entry with remote start and alarm with 2way pager. youll sell it. i personally installed 100 alarms with remote start in 30 days,( i kept count on paper) all by myself in my shop, that was in january 2013. i worked 7 days a week and didnt refuse a single job that came my way.i almost killed myself as a result of doing that many i have not had a single return/repair or complaint in over 3 years. not trying to brag or boast, but once you know how to install them it becomes easier and easier, espically with all the new technology available with the bypass modules. the key is to solder all connections and do a clean wiring intsall.

yea just a basic 2-way remote start. thought the car was going to sit outside in the cold but it has a garage spot so never worried about it. I didnt want the extra bulky fob either since I hate carrying keys around and all of my other cars I did what you mentioned. This was one of the reasons I went with this unit was the smaller fob.

what I wanted to do was get the newer directed unit that allows you to program the factory keyless entry button to be pushed say three times and start the car. PM me what you would want to install and do this. I would install it in the Honda then. I actually have the spare Odyssey key in the 556u as I was going to just install it in that. I think I may do a trans swap this summer on the BMW so this is why I was thinking just sell or maybe toss it in the family hauler and just put it to use.
