Key blank cut??
I just purchased a new key from ebay and I wanted to know if anyone knows where I can get it cut for cheap/correctly. I purchased a clear red housing/remote and key on ebay but the dealer will not cut the key because of quality issues. I was told they were doing them until one destroyed a $4K machine. Now they only use OEM keys to cut. Anyone have an idea where I can get this thing cut?

the parts kid at brederman refused to cut my key, he said they only cut keys purchased through them because they didnt want to damage their $80 cutter on an aftermarket key, even though the key i brought in was a brand new factory remote key.
on my way home, i stopped in at AAA lock & key on waukegan in glenview, they quoted me $20 or so, but i told them i already had the blanks and they cut 3 keys for $10. i didnt have the car with me, he told me it would be ideal to have the car there to make sure the keys fit smoothly, i visited them later that week and they cleaned up one key that didnt fit quite right.

Migirdech,
Where are you finding Lexus blanks? Also, how about do you go coding the blank to the car (as for door locks, trunk, and security code for iginition (does Lexus use coded keys for the ignition))?

my 90 LS keyless entry system isnt as sophisticated as the newer models, but i did need to get a complete set including the rom chip that goes into the keyless module in my trunk (near the power radio antenna).
the previous owner lost all of the remote keys, so i had to start from scratch. i got a matched set of 3 keys and the rom on ebay for about $125, dealer price was ~$300 for a 2 key set with the rom. i pulled my old rom and installed the new one, then i verified that all 3 keys were matching and would lock/unlock the doors. i had only 1 key cut at AAA lock & key using my existing non-remote key and sold the remaining 2 keys without rom on ebay for $150
i found that any model year lex that used the 1-side button remote key could be programmed to any car's keyless module code, except for the 90 LS (just like every other model year is pre-wired for the cd changer in the trunk except, you guessed it, the 90 LS).
i'm not sure which model year lexus started using transponder keys with the chip built into the key, those keys need to be ordered direct from the parts dept at the dealer. i remember reading some threads where forum members contacted lexus corporate and corporate pulled some strings to have the key ecu replaced with a new ecu and set of keys in the owners cars at the dealer free of charge. i've also seen a site for some company, probably a one-man operation, that can reprogram toyota based ecu's for ~$250.
do a search for for "keyless" and "remote" in the forums...

My keys were definitely generic.
The front desk lady offered my coffee while I waited.
That alone will bring me back to that dealer.
