People in general just have a stunning lack of awareness of anybody around them. I told this story once before, but I held a door open for a woman a couple months ago and she just walked in and ignored me, so I said “you’re welcome” and she turned around and was so embarrassed and apologetic that she had been so rude. She just was totally in her own world.
Yep. If I have to pass on the right and they try that I just make it clear they can't.
They don’t even try to pass. They just accelerate and drive in my blind spot for a short while, then slow down again to resume clogging the left lane.
I was recently in Europe for 3 weeks and most of the time was in Germany. The left lane is a passing lane there and it doesn’t take long for it to spoil me. I usually get a crap box crossover, so I am not in the passing lane often, but it’s nice that you can pass and move back to the right. I come back home and it’s back to chaos.
I've always believed that if someone can't operate their vehicle at a quarter-mile per hour in order to park it correctly, then they probably can't correctly or safely operate their vehicle at higher speeds. SW17LS noted a stunning lack of awareness of anybody around them...I think it's often even more self-centered than that, but close enough...
And just think of all the cameras on that Tesla to help that bozo park it.
I had one of my agents in the car with me one time and I backed into a small parking stall in our office garage and he goes "how are you able to poark this huge car like that?" It has 40 cameras, surround view monitors, sonar parking sensors and in a pinch it will actually park itself. How could you NOT be able to park it?!

Might be slightly off-topic, but I looked at a 2024 Buick Envista and a new 2024 Encore GX today while my own GX was getting a new tire from a puncture. I generally liked both of them, but one deal-breaker in the Envista was that, because of its very low price (23K for base versions, 29K for top-line Avenirs), a 360 camera was not available in any package. I've become a firm believer in those 360s...IMO they are one of the best devices the industry has ever come cup with as a parking-aid, particularly at night. It also negates the need for automatic tilt-down mirrors when you shift into reverse. The Envista also comes only in FWD, and with a dated 6-speed automatic and the small 1.2L turbo three instead of the 9-speed and 1.3L in the AWD GX. It has an interesting profile, though, with a longer wheel base and soft-riding 60-series tires, although I don't need anything longer than the GX...the Envista, though cheaper, is several inches longer than the GX.

I hate that too, I always think of my Grandmother when it's an elderly lady... and I also say things like "oh, you're welcome" too when they don't thank me, haha. That pisses me off.
I agree we are all in our own worlds, it's just us all connected to our phones and text threads and internet 24/7. (Even though she wasn't on her phone, still...) I understand why so many people are on benzos (Xanax, ativan, etc.) in today's world, a few friends and I were talking about that and just how anxiety with the general public is so much worse than it used to be. It it what it is, I guess.

A lot of people today are also under the effect of all kinds of both legal and illegal drugs...which can sometimes explain a stupor like that. And, without getting too deeply into politics, it has become much worse since states began legalizing marijuana.

Not to excuse the behavior, but to be fair, in my recent Tesla rental, I found the cameras to be extremely lacking. I'll fully admit that it could have been user error, but I found no birds eye view camera available. Just the rear view and oddly placed side view cameras that were difficult to use. But with that said, my Tundra is ginormous, without decent cameras (rear view only), and I can park better than that...

I agree on the 360 cameras, one of the best features on modern cars.

I would think "self centered" person could --->Self Center <--- his car in the ---> Center <--- of the parking spot.
I'll admit there have been a couple of times where I've been in a massive rush and parked less than ideally, but generally I take great care to make sure that I'm centered in between the lines.
Costco parking lots here always have this kind of parking. People have no patience to check their parking job. It only takes ten seconds at most to adjust.
Circling back to the highway discussion, I see people that have this urgency to jump in the middle lane as soon as they get on. They'll get on and before they even match the speed of other drivers, jump on the middle lane slowing everyone else down. That kills it for everyone around them.
A lot of people today are also under the effect of all kinds of both legal and illegal drugs...which can sometimes explain a stupor like that. And, without getting too deeply into politics, it has become much worse since states began legalizing marijuana.
All of the clueless people out there are not on drugs lol, they’re just clueless.
