I am surrounded by these mega gas stations 20 minutes in every direction I go. I am also trying to understand the attraction besides the store's size. The gas is not cheap, the sandwiches are neither cheap nor tasty, and the store is full of its logo memorabilia trinkets. My wife says it is capitalizing on the herd mentality and the logo. I do admit the stores are clean and well staffed. The rest restrooms are definitely very clean and maintained by a full-time attendant; deserves 5 stars.
it's from Texas. "necessary" isn't the right question. fun? epic? delicious food? well run? experience? why not? better questions, haha
haha, great! jerky bar anyone?
great promo video.
Sold!
"You had me at Jerky Bar"... lol

Your on your way to being a fan, looking at your ratings. lol
Spoiler
Just messing with ya friend. lol
But- abundant bathrooms really are nice cuz nobody wats to stand in line for 20 mins while someone hogs the bathroom(and STINKS it OUT lol), which happens in the small gas stations. lol
i was thinking about electric charging, and it seems buc-ee's might be well positioned for that, as people could charge and have a clean spacious place to relieve themselves, eat, shop, etc.
I was in Alabama last February for my cousin's funeral, and my other two cousins and I drove about 40 miles to check out a Buc-ees and it was epic. The scale of it is diffcult to comprehend, and there are bigger ones...incredible food, the bathrooms are like private little self contained rooms and so clean, and everything is absurdly cheap.
I was going on about how cheap the ice was and actually ran into the parking curb lol
And you can buy ANYTHING you can imagine with the Buc-ee the beaver on it
Plus lots of stuff that isn't branded...you can buy guns, ammo, country store stuff, furniture, clothes, camping equipment...electronics...
I live 2 miles from one. Always packed. I went when they first opened and have not been back, not that its bad but the food is fast food quality and the gas is not any cheaper then around town.
If you never been to one you should stop by one if its along your travel route.
So there's a reason why the gas is not cheaper than around town. Theres actually a law that you can't sell gasoline at a loss, and its because of Buc-ees. They used to sell gas at a loss as a loss leader to get people into their store, and competitors caused such an uproar it led to the passage of that law, so the gas at Buc-ees is sold at cost, so its the cheapest gas you can possibly buy...they still get accused of violating it by competitors today...
interesting that they don't allow 18 wheelers or even just the front end cabs!
traffic is already bad on site, imagine with 18 wheelers clogging it even more. They dont want lot lizards around either. Plenty of other places for 18 wheelers to stop

Duh, I didn't think of that.
Not exactly promoting a family environment with that element(see bolded above) walking around. haha
Besides, they have truck stops for truckers so they're already all set anyway so they have no reason for the boo-hoo-ing. lol
Steve,
Last time when you said it was like a kid in a candy store, I didn't really expect to be this exact! Lol. That one in Alabama is one crazy one. I think the biggest one is coming back to TX.

i guess others have a more positive view.
Yeah people go there for different reasons, not for gas. Now that they have super charger so they will even draw more crowd.
