Default android auto beta (2022)

one thing driving me nuts about my '21 santa fe is android auto would only use 2/3rds of the width of the screen with the right 3rd being either just "Android Auto" or being one of the built in infotainment panels of either music, weather, clock, or compass i think.

finally took the time to dig into this and did a recent update to the infotainment system (nice that hyundai just let's you download to a flash drive and install yourself!). took hours but worth it!
recently i'd signed up for the android auto beta, thinking that might fix the full screen issue, but that turned out to be in the car, not the phone app.

after the hyundai update, waddya know, full screen! and being the android auto beta on the phone, i have the new layouts and layout control.

here's some screenshots i took:

2/3 1/3 map and music

full map - took me a bit to figure out how to get that but i did it by tapping the google maps icon while it was showing 2/3 and it went full screen

2/3 1/3 music and map

bottom line - i love it!

my lc500 could already do full screen sort of, it did map or other app 2/3 and music 1/3 but maybe now with the update app i can get other layouts.

i do both cars wirelessly each with their own aawireless indiegogo widget

I love Android Auto, but it's always been in Beta (what Google product isn't lol?). I installed a GROM VLINE VL2 in my IS350 just so I could use Android auto, it worked pretty well most of the time. Thankfully in my Polestar it uses Android Automotive (different from Android Auto), so I don't have to plug my phone in (unless I want to charge) as it uses native Android apps from Google Play...at least a lot of ones I use on my OnePlus

After installing the GROM VLINE in my IS350

the hyundai update was only to enable full width AA vs just 2/3 of the screen and that was already in place for most new hyundai/kia/genesis. the fix has apparently been available in the april '22 or later infotainment software packages. i thought i'd done it more recently than april, but maybe i was just before.

the new split screen options, rounded panels, and touch swapping or full screen panels is all in the phone / android auto, not the car.

basically the car just tells the phone about the screen(s)/dimension(s) it can use.

Right, it’s the same thing with CarPlay on widescreen Mercedes models with MBUX.

That's a nice update. Now if only Hyundai could update their Android Auto and Apple Carplay to wireless in the same manner.

Honestly, I don’t mind wired CarPlay. I would always have the phone charging in the car anyways or my phone would be dead.

I don’t have an issue with the wired car play in my Toyota either.

yeah. it's odd that the only offered wireless on cars with smaller screens... but i don't see that coming as a factory retrofit / software update.

Hmm, this makes me wonder if my IS can do the opposite and full-screen the map.

that's what a wireless charger is for. wires suck.
