Corvette to become a brand ?
Seems like they just want a sporty brand. As others have said Porsche did the similar, so I can see a board room saying why can't we have a Corvette Taycan or Corvette Cayenne etc. Just depends on how they roll it out I guess. I feel like we heard this idea of a stand alone brand a few years ago, so maybe its now dusted off and ready to go for real?
To me, those sales numbers are pathetic. Model S sales in 2022 were 167,572 between Jan 2022 and Oct 2022, and it's in a higher price range (Model S starting price is $129,990). That's demand IMHO
Production was utterly halted in December, April, May, August, and October, due to Fire, Tornado, and parts shortages.
Anyone who makes the claim an EV is not a car, or EV's are all the same knows nothing about them. That's like saying a Toyota Corolla is exactly like and drives like an LC500. I've owned two for almost the last 3 years, I've driven several different EV's and yes, they are cars, and they have distinctive personalities just like other cars. An Audi E-Tron drives, handles, and acts differently than an EQS. A Porsche Taycan drives, feels, and acts differently from a Model 3, Y or S. My wife's Ioniq EV is distinctively different from my Polestar. My brother in laws Model 3 is on a different level than my Polestar. If it were true that all EV's are the same, I might as well just buy a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Bolt and save $20K

There are long waits for the C8 - GM cannot make enough of them. In fact, the waiting list for the Z06 is so long - the entire model run, 7+ years worth of cars, may be already sold out if the people with deposits are actually "real" and not flippers. The sedan won't sell if its a gasoline model - Porsche is showing that with the Panamera, its going to be cancelled because in that segment, their total sales targets for a sedan can be met with the Taycan EV, they are cannibalizing their own offering. But the Corvette SUV will sell in big numbers if they get it right, the Europeans have 100% of that market now and its very lucrative.
This could not be more true. If you think about the looks and the pedigree of the Corvette coupe/convertible, and then translate that into a hybrid (let's say NA V8 plus 1 or 2 motors) SUV that starts at $130k or so and competes with the Urus, they would sell like mad.

Corvette founder Zora-Arkos-Duntov will roll over in his grave.......just as Dr. Ferdinand Porsche did when the first Cayenne was unveiled.
To be fair, though, when I fell in love with big cushy Buicks in college, I never dreamed that the company would ever produce something like the Encore or Encore GX. I didn't like the Encore at all, but I'm in love today with the Encore GX...all except for the three cylinders.
I don't mind Corvette getting spun off as its own brand, but I question whether GM really needs another brand when they're already so blatant with their badge engineering. Would have been smarter to just revive Pontiac if they really wanted a performance brand anyway.
Many companies practice badge-engineering and vehicle re-badging. Can't just poke a stick at GM for that one.
And, also, don't forget that even the Corvette itself once had a more-expensive brother on the same platform....the 2-seat Cadillac XLR roadster.
