Appreciate the head's up on the suspensions on both of those. Ironically my AHC failed in the LX about 3 years into ownership.. it was leaking fluid and had to be replaced (under warranty luckily). We had about 90k miles on it at the time. New LX is out of the question but new Sequoia intrigues me as it looks very similar to a newer LX from the side (a good thing IMO) - Capstone trim is about $75k but I don't know if I can get my hands on one as they seem hard to come by and looks online like dealers are marking them up way over sticker.
Just be aware that they are gouging the Sequoyah. There is one here at a dealer for $90,000+ and I don't even think it is the Capstone. But it's nice.
Sorry to hear about your AHC, usually it lasts pretty much the life of the vehicle if the fluid is changed regularly.
I dont agree with this at all. GM and Ford do trucks well, there are many many GM large SUVs and Ford large SUVs running around in livery fleets with really high mileage and they hold up very well. I rode in one the other day that had 320,000 miles on it.
The issue with the LX is its just nowhere near as spacious or as well packaged for family duty as a GM or Ford BOF SUV. I would never choose one for that reason.
I think LX is great for a 4 person family, but no more. So it's basically a sedan, which is worthless for any more than 4.
And yes about American trucks, they are solid. They may have gremlins in some cases but in terms of lasting, they last and are very tough.

For my 4 person family it wouldnt work for travel. I need a usable third row with the ability to carry luggage with it at least partially deployed for the dog, and preferably captains chairs.

Yeah you can't beat the new packaging space/room in the newest American BOF trucks.

I would advise against it, it's a step backward in ride quality from the 2nd gen and has MAJOR drawbacks vs the domestics.
I would suggest the Lincoln large SUVs but be aware the ecoboosts can be extremely problematic engines. The GM large platform SUVs are great and will get you 300-400k miles no issue if you keep rust off of them.
IMO, from what you listed, a new GX seems like a good fit.

I find myself in a similar predicament every 1 year as these new fancy SUVs come out. I would tell you to get another new LX 2016+ its worth the update to what you have. 2nd choice would be a 23 sequoia. I wish my LX was little larger but a motion xt xxl cargo box takes care of that on longer trips. I just came back more a week driving to and back from Florida stopping at state parks and resorts. I have said this often nothin comes close to the dependability of the LX/LC. everytime we take it to long trips I wish I had larger SUV so I can sleep in and that's about it.
American large SUVs while brand new are great, they age as if they are on meeeth. the new Cadillac esv looks good too but again in 4-5 years they will be riddled with issues.
Yes there are people here like you and me who have owned an LX for years to understand what I mean and what value it brings. for me its peace of mind that I can depend on this 4000 miles away from home with. my whole family inside and its very comfy on long drives too. This below was just yesterday 900 miles away; bad crash on i4 Florida

This is just total crap, sorry lol. American trucks are out there all over the place with hundreds of thousands of miles on them, they are the workhorses of America. They are very dependable. Will they age as well as a Lexus LX? Well, honestly no other Lexus does anymore either except maybe the LS, and I can't speak to the 500.
The LX is a fine vehicle, but as big BOF SUVs go its small, thats the big issue. You can put a carrier on top, but then you have to store that carrier somewhere and you have to remember its above it when you are on the road and parking in garages, etc. I don't want to have to deal with one of those. I want a vehicle that can hold my family and all our stuff inside the vehicle, and the LX is too small for that.
An LX570 only has 42 sq ft of space behind the second row, and 11 behind the third row. A Tahoe by comparison has 73 square feet behind the second row and 26 square feet behind the third row, and its only 10 inches longer, its just a dramatically more spacious vehicle inside, and if you need that space you need that space. If you go to a Suburban the difference is even more massive, but then its so big its ungainly to drive around town.
People drive big American SUVs all over the country and get where they are going and don't have any problems. The Lexus LX is not the only vehicle that can reliably transport a family, nor is it the only vehicle that will hold up well to 100k+ miles of use.

Yeah for real. My 300k mile Jeep for as much as I hate on it is actually shocking in the regard it just simply works, same concept extends to any of the large format BOF trucks/SUVs
