The e latch works with blind spot detection to prevent the door from opening in some circumstances. Otherwise they could just put a cheap LX style door latch. So there has to be some sort of electrical component

Millennials and the gen after are different now. I can see some point their phone out the window, take a picture and then look on the phone if the coast is clear.

The e latch is already on the NX. I think most cars will go this way. For safety reasons I guess. Also good to be different and stand out. Personally I’d rather just have a regular handle

I’ve been looking forward to having this safety feature on my next vehicle. My partner has a tendency to open his door without checking the traffic outside. This would be a godsend!

Lol, now that is tech I would love in a car door. Haha. I love trying to slam my kitchen cabinets then it just hits the dampers and closes very calmly. Lol

Pretty much. I have this in my Stinger, they call it safe exit assist. Living in central Philly where street/parallel parking is a necessity if I decide to drive, I thought this would go off all the time. Only two times I have triggered the system, both at night with a bicyclist and a car. It's cool that it can identify bikes in low light and happy that it's not overly aggressive cause you know, I have eyes and there are mirrors. Lol.

I'd imagine these systems really shines for those with kids or back seat riders who tend to open doors without looking.
