I'm guessing the saner people at Toyota see this among other factors.
Tesla is at the beginning of their money printer curve Toyota has been going in the opposite direction directly as a result of their dithering around with hybrids and hydrogen. Do I believe Toyota is actually going to fully embrace EVs? Maybe, stop talking Toyota and show me.
I keep looking to see if the sources are gonna come forward and be verified. otherwise anonymous sources is a sign of poor reporting.
If it wasn't true, why hasn't Toyota disputed it? That would make Toyota/Lexus an irresponsible company, allowing news like this to spread by every news and automotive news outlet. Hiding from the truth doesn't change reality
EVs and Toyota finally taking them seriously is fake news, obviously.
You know when you stick your head in the sand because it's easier than facing reality, you just get it in your mouth. Doesn't taste very good, at least the last time I tasted sand

Do you think Toyota is REALLY taking EVs seriously this time? Akio Toyoda was put in charge of Toyota's BEV program in 2017 and said they would have multiple models by 2020.

I've eaten sand when trying to surf.
Yeah, I actually think they are. It's one of those Do or Die moments for them. BTW, haven't I told you not to open your mouth when you surf? Kids these days...
I hold out hope that they are making the right move. They are never going to catch up with Tesla (that ship sailed many, many years ago), but they can at least still be competitive against VW Audi, GM and Ford.
Yes son, never open your mouth while surfing. Jeeez...
I find the comment that something is overpriced when the manufacturer sells all of them they make hilarious. Someone needs to go back to Business 101.
I think they mean overpriced for the quality. They are not overpriced for the fun, excitement and novelty. Plus there is no gas to put in. For example, the Tesla 3 is a like $100,000 power train but in a $15,000 car. While there is a lot of cutting edge technology, but a Tesla 3 still lacks A LOT of features. Last week we called an Uber, it was a Tesla 3. The driver had no car play so he had to handle his phone. The car was not at all quiet at highway speeds. There were many features missing as well. The ride was harsh and noisy at highway speeds which is why I referenced a $15K cart..... But it was FAST. And the screen is COOL..and there is no gas to put in
