News: Toyota to Boost Lexus Sales in US by 30 Percent to 300,000 by 2006

TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Toyota Motor Corp plans to boost sales of its Lexus luxury car lineup in the US by 30 pct from 2002 levels to 300,000 vehicles by 2006, company officials said, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
New models to be added to the Lexus lineup will include hybrid cars with a gasoline engine and an electric motor, and a two-door convertible, the report said.
The hybrid car in the RX330 series will be launched next autumn and the IS300 will be fully remodeled into a convertible a year later, the report said.
Toyota launched Lexus models in the US in 1989. It sold 234,000 vehicles in eight different models in 2002 and projects sales of 250,000 cars this year, the Nihon Keizai added.
