Model Y AWD (the 4680 279 mile model) is being produced in Austin at their new factory. Fremont is still producing 2170 Model Y Long Range and Performance.
Nope, they all have “A” in the 11th spot of their VIN, which means manufactured in Austin. “F” in that spot would mean Fremont.
They’ve been building cars in Austin for months now. Tesla employees have been test driving and evaluating Austin builds for a long while now. Only very recently have any customers taken delivery. This gray one that’s been featured in videos and articles has got to be one of the very first customer deliveries.
Understood that the cars are being built in Austin. I was referring to the fact that they built an inventory of 4680 battery cells in Fremont to be used in Austin because they were having issues with the battery production in Austin. I found an article that says they just began 4680 production in May. I hope they get to scale soon to relieve the constraints.
You can only get them if you live in Austin and have a order in with Tesla. They will give you an invite to get a 4680 version for cheaper but with less range (not much cheaper...maybe $2-3k).
