What's the significance, that it's an 80's/90's era Si or that Maryland has a lot of history? No, I don't want to feel old, thank you very much

You miss the point, lol. I think it may differ from state to state, but here in NY a car is eligible for historic plates once its 25 years old. When I think of traditional cars with historic plates, I think 60ies muscle cars, not a mid 90ies Civic. When someone says mid 90ies, I think 10 years ago.

In MD any vehicle that is 20 years old can qualify for "Historic" tags

every state has different rules on historic plates. that civic does not qualify for historical plates in CA - yet.

in CA iirc, it must be 30 years old to qualify (that civic is a 99-00) plus if you register your vehicle as historic, it can only be limitedly driven (e.g. to and from car shows).

With age (usually) comes wisdom.

I can remember when the smaller sibling CRX Si was in production....late 80s to early 90s. It was a true cult-car. One of my closest friends had one.....I did a write up on the CRX some time ago.

I know right? It had a super fart can exhaust too!
Typical...the 3-inch-diameter outlet. We used to call them the "Coke-Can" exhausts.

I had one just like this, except mine was a DX model, which I think had 70hp to the SI's 140hp.

Oh, OK, duh. In California a car will become a classic after 25 30 years, but there are no plates for that unless the owner registers it and gets a custom license plate. Yes, I missed it by a longshot

I believe in NY a car with historic plates is exempt from state emissions/safety inspection.

A buddy of mine had one of those CRXs too.

More like 10 inches on this one!

Maryland still safety-inspects when a vehicle is bought, sold, bought, or changes hands, don't they? That's significantly different from neighboring Virginia, where each registered vehicle is safety-inspected once a year regardless of ownership.

Actually, though, in Virginia, these inspection laws (and plate-registration laws) seem to mean little any more, as, ever since the pandemic started, many people have simply ignored them, and they are not really being enforced any more except at DMV itself.
