Eh, I didn't like the EVs as much since they were louder inside than a 430 according to my ear and the DB meter. Power delivery is the same, the LS is seemless already so you can't really improve on that aside from the faster acceleration. Not saying the EVs aren't great and that is not amazing that they can offer that level of impressive, if anything it proves how impressive they are since you have to bring out a true flagship to compare to them.

100%. On a normal takeoff in one of these the acceleration is so smooth and linear, the shifting mapped so right that it almost feels like a CVT, minus the shytty qualities of them. That V8 purr I will take over EV silence every day of the week. Doubt there’s an EV in production that could touch an LS430 build quality wise other than maybe a Porsche Taycan. The Mercedes EQS looks awesome inside but materials aren’t up to par with the rest of the car. There is literally not one cheap feeling thing inside an LS430. I’ve driven the car for 10+ years, I know it well.

I don't know which EV's you are talking about, my Polestar is quieter at 70 mph than an LS460, and LS500 and pretty much any Mercedes S class I've driven or ridden as a passenger. At 80 mph you hear a little bit of wind and road noise, but since the tires are padded you barely hear them. You can hold a normal conversation at hwy speeds

I seriously doubt that. A 460 is quieter at WOT than a Tesla at idle not moving. All instrumented tests show that, the 460 is literally whisper quiet inside with NO wind noise at 100 plus.

Just because it's an EV doesn't make it magically quieter than higher end cars.

https://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/track-tests/track-tested-2010-lexus-ls-460-sport-vs-2009-bmw-750i-sport.html

That's a 2010 not a 13+ that is quieter nor something like an LS600 that is debatably the quietest car ever made.

Here is your polestar, a 460 is 58-60 DB at 70 so no your EV is not quieter. It's actually more than twice as loud since 3db is 2x sound pressure

I'll discuss this more with you tomorrow as my brain isn't working right now as I had a long day at work, but I will just say the last part of your post is a little misleading. The only reasons sounds are a little more amplified in the cabin of my car is... there's no engine noise to contend with! The cabin is isolated from the road so cabin noises are bit more amplified and bounce around with no engine noises to buffer it. I've driven an LS460 and 500, a few S Class, owned several V6 Camrys, and you can always hear the engine no matter how much they isolate it, or use different sound cancelling techniques. Those cars may use better sound dampening materials, but you can't hide the sound of an engine and transmission. The only way to make them quieter... turn the engine off, put them in neutral, and roll them down a steep hill.

BTW @bitkahuna for creating this thread

Not scientific but EVs are so quiet since there is no engine vibration or noise that it seems like any road noise is amplified but who knows. I’m still trying to understand how a LS460 at WOT is quieter than a Tesla not moving.

It’s not good having the cabin too quiet. It’s disorientating.

That’s why rolls Royce had to add sound back due to too much insulation.

One of the oddest things I've seen posted on this forum I must be missing something.

We've been through this topic many times. EV's have no drivetrain noises to mask road and wind noise so those get amplified in an EV. So EV's need even more sound insulation to mask those noises than an ICE car.

There is no argument to EV's having quieter drivetrains than ICE's, that's just physics.

What a sound deadening materials in EVs? I know the early hybrids would eliminate some of those materials to save weight and increase mileage. Not sure how much sound deadening materials a Tesla has. I know every Tesla I've been in had a lot of road/tire and wind noise.

It depends on the EV. Teslas are unquestionably louder inside than an LS, they just aren't as well isolated. An EQS? Not so, and I suspect a Lucid Air not so. If Lexus made an EV at the level of the LS, why would it be louder?

As for acceleration, can't agree at all there. The power delivery of an LS is nowhere near "the same" lol

The issue has nothing to do with EVs vs ICEs its the design of specific models themselves.

it's not amplified it's just more noticeable because it's not drowned out by engine nvh.

that first sentence is clearly incorrect.
i have little doubt the LS is quieter than a Model S when at speed however.
