I was going to get a m340i in mineral white knowing that it has a b58 motor which was co-developed with Toyota that was the only bmw I would consider. The bmw stealership here in Honolulu lowballs so much that it wasn’t worth trading in my 350 no way in hell was I going to take 37500 and it being less than a year old I thought they were on crack. Although BMW here doesn’t markup either which is surprising I walked away regardless it was an insult to my car and me.
I also went to Cutter Ford which had two locations in California if you recognize the cutter name. So I think they sold those two in CA and relocated to Oahu a long time ago. These guys are greedy with a markup adjusted market value of almost 5k although they gave me a very good trade in of 43000 which is very close to msrp what I pretty much paid. I walked away from that too as it was just too much for a “Ford” mustang GT premium I can get a “Mach 1” for 53k, mustangs are supposed to be a bang for your buck but not this one, although it was a fun car to drive and plenty power with the 5.0 coyote I think Lexus makes a better 5.0 302 V8. So I chose the 500 instead even though it was more expensive it’s a better car and I felt like I was downgrading if I didn’t get the Lexus.
Maybe I can lease the stang for a daily and keep the 500 as a casual driver.

also is the GAP line referring to gap insurance? That is overpriced if it is.

celsior0, so in the end you got an IS500? is that what you meant by '500'? how was 'dealing' on that?

i don't like dealing with car dealers any more than you do it seems, but you mentioned the bmw wasn't marking up but was giving you less on trade-in than you wanted, and ford was marking up but giving you a seemingly great trade-in, so doesn't that work out to be sort of the same thing?

it's all a game or price, trade, rates, add-ons you may or may not want...

anyway, congrats on whateve you got.

The B58 engine is used in the Supra but it’s a 100% BMW engine. There wasn’t any co-development with BMW.

Man this was a hard post to follow. And the title does nothing to help. And yes, Toyota didn't co-develop anything on that engine.

No the b58 in the Supra was co-developed with Toyota. They revised the motor and brought back the parts to bmw for revision. Even bmw told me this. I don’t think u know much about the co-development

Toyota didn’t develop anything on the B58 motor at all.
They have some input on tuning the throttle inputs and trans shifting but thats about it. They made some recommendations to increase reliability which im not sure BMW took into account.

Typically the BMW inline 6 motors are very solid.

The B58 is a great motor for tuning- you can safely make 600hp with stock trans.

IS500 is a great buy and will definitely be unique just don’t race any B58 equipped car lol

I have an M340i and Toyota didn't co develop the engine , I almost got an IS500 but the price was too high and while I love the engine it's just not powerful enough.
