Default Good values in used Lexus crossovers or SUVs?

Hello, I have driven a pre-2000 LS400 for several years and am impressed by its durability and long-life. Also by the good values for good-condition LS400s on the used market.

Did Lexus make any crossovers or SUVs that are especially good values used, in the way that the LS 400 is? Maybe some are low-priced because of a particular problem that can be fixed?

Thanks!

Thanks for the question....and welcome to CL. I see you are almost a brand-new poster.

Older crossover RX models are versatile and generally have an excellent reputation, although I would avoid those with the 3.0L V6 (RX300), unless you have strict, accurate oil-change and other service-records for them. That engine was not forgiving of oil-change neglect, and had sludge/gel problems.

The GX models are well-built and tough as nails, although they are truck-based body-on-frame vehicles, more suited to towing or off-road work.

Thank @mmarshall! That's very helpful. Do you think an older RX with a v8 could go as long as an LS 400, meaning 300k miles if it's well maintained?

I personally wouldn’t touch an early RX300 because of the crappy U140e transmission they came with. Those transmissions were an absolute nightmare to deal with on the 99-01 ES300 of that era and they are both expensive and tough to find in good shape. This applies to the first generation RX300. I’ve seen high mileage RX’s running around but I wouldn’t risk it. They’re also tiny compared to the newer RX’s.

I’d recommend the GX470 or an RX330. You could also get lucky and find a cheap late 90’s LX470 but it will probably be in bad shape with a ton of miles. GX’s have gotten more expensive but you can still find cheaper ones in good shape. High mileage 08-10 RX350’s pop up under $10,000 every once in a while too.

Welcome. rx never had a v8. And ANY car can go 300k mi. if it's well maintained.

for durability and a v8, i'd get a GX.

No American-spec RX models that I know of ever had a V8. That was confined to GX and LX models.

If you must, any GX is a good value, relatively. There are no good values these days with car prices the way they are. If u r not in a hurry, wait another yr or 2.

The 2013 + RXs are very good value, it has the same 3.5 v6 drivetrain as toyota highlander /Sienna. I have one with almost 200k, looks brand new and drives even better. Tires and brakes/oil changes and this thing keeps on running.

The v8s on the LX/GX are probably a grade higher but it should not diminish the tremendous value the RX350 brings.

Unfortunately there are very few good deals to be had right now. Used vehicles are in tight supply and prices have been skyrocketing. If you wait it out a bit, you may have a better opportunity later.

I have a 14 RX AWD with 62k on the clock. I've had absolutely zero issues since I bought it in 2014 with 6,000 miles on it. It's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and glad I didn't purchase the extended warranty.

We have a 2011 RX450h. No issues so far. They are well built and is a good work horse.

The body is thick gauge sheet metal so withstand dings very well.
