Default Recalls get stranger every day.

Well, here's a real winner of a recall. Hyundai/Kia is recalling some past-generation Sonatas and Sedonas for turn-signals that flash on the opposite side of the lever LOL.

That reminds me of something out of the old Three Stooges films.

Steve....I think your wife had one of those Sedona minivans that are affected. (2015-2017)

Hyundai, Kia Recall 500,000 For Wrong Turn Signal Flashing

by TWIW Staff | September 30, 2021

Massachusetts residents with certain Hyundai and Kia models are among over 500,000 owners who will receive recall notices in November for a problem that could lead to turn signals blinking on the wrong side of the vehicle.

A National Highway Traffic Safety Agency [NHTSA] campaign announced that Hyundai and Kia have issued a notice of recall for over 500,000 vehicles for a software problem that could cause the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended, leading to a higher risk of crash.

The potential number of affected vehicles reported is 466,109 Hyundai and 88,576 Kia. The models affected are:
  • 2015 - 2017 Hyundai Sonata
  • 2016 - 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
  • 2016 - 2017 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid
  • 2015 - 2017 Kia Sedona
For more information on this recall, see the NHTSA recall information for the Hyundai or Kia Sedona.

According to the NHTSA, Kia expects to mail notices to owners on November 12. Hyundai expects to mail notices to customers on November 19.

To search your vehicle identification number (VIN) for existing manufacturer recalls, visit the NHTSA website.

Yes, from what I've hard, it's apparently a software issue.

Saw that. Not that bad a recall. The engine fires are very concerning but this is not that bad. 500,000 is a lot. But I am sure they will get it fixed

I agree it's not as bad as an underhood fire, but this is one of the strangest recalls I've seen yet.

Yes…One of the strangest indeed.

LOL, software engineers can't even get turn signals right, yet some believe in the self driving pipe dream.

In the old days, they taught hand-signals in driving school for a reason: You never know when you will need them.

The only problem with that one is that some drivers, today, tend to use the "Right" arm position (and their center finger) for non-related reasons LOL.

Bicyclists use hand signals all the time, unfortunately most drivers are too oblivious to understand them. I'm not sure if these are still being taught in driving schools.

It certainly is a bad recall IMO. Signalling your intent is very important, if you aren't able to properly signal your intent, you may catch someone off guard and potentially cause a collision. I feel like this is worse than a turn signal not functioning at all (or not being used at all). Should be a simple software fix though, so that's good. Definitely one of the strangest recalls I've seen.

If anything, I think this is more dangerous and has the potential to cause harm to a lot more people than some isolated fires.

Ok. It’s just as BAD. Shame on Hyundai.

I'm not saying shame on Hyundai, its a recall, they uncovered an issue and they're fixing it.

They're supposed to use hand-signals. Many do......too many don't.

Newer motorcycles and motor-scooters generally have electric signals.....but, with many older machines, you had to also use hand-signals.

Yes, that seems to be more and more the case nowadays....automakers relying on outside-sourced software that is sometimes not reliable. We just saw that a few days ago with the Toyota Tundra's headlights. My own Encore GX just had a recall/reprogramming of the audio/infotainment system. And, tomorrow, it will likely be something else.
