Atomic Silver - official source?
Hi all,
One of my close friends recently got a brand new RX450h in Atomic Silver, and unfortunately managed to get a couple of long deep scratches in the rear bumper (a garage/bumper incident). I've been helping him with deciding on potential solutions (from repair to repaint), but a bit of a debate has broken out between us and some of the vendors we've been speaking to. The crux of it is: what is special about Atomic Silver from an application perspective? My friend had seen and was told by some people that Atomic Silver is a special 5 stage (or step) process, different from other Lexus paints. Some of the vendors who have worked with it though claim it is just a standard 3 stage paint.
In order to provide evidence to those vendors we went online expecting to find Lexus official sources to back us up, but surprisingly have only found forum posts, unofficial YouTube videos, and the like claiming the special paint process - but absolutely nothing from Lexus themselves. We've checked all the brochures, the configurator, and dealer sites - but other than a special red color a while ago, and of course Structural Blue, Atomic Silver seems to just be applied in exactly the same way as other Lexus paints (which may be different from other manufacturers - but just trying to work out the process compared to other standard Lexus paints).
Anyway, if anyone can either officially tell me that it is a standard application paint, or provide some official reference (press release, paint application guide for repair shops, etc, from Lexus) to say that it does require something special, it would be appreciated. He wants to get the car looking like new again as it's only a few months old (so wants to ensure it's applied correctly), as otherwise the color is stunning.
Thanks again!
