A DUI driver crashed his Tesla and it caught on fire, releasing a bunch of environmentally friendly toxic smoke and took 40 times the amount of water to put out than what a regular car fire would take.
I don't much care to get into the heated Tesla debates that seem to take over Car Chat these days (and I can see where this one will ultimately go, which is in the same direction that other 'Tesla caught fire' threads have gone), but I do think this is a little funny that it crashed at a gas station...

I just want to see and laugh at the mental gymnastics from the Tesla fluffers trying to defend this.
I was stuck in a traffic jam on the expressway last Friday. The cause - the burned out shell of a car on the other side of the highway. It looked like a Land Rover. Funny - there's no viral story about it.
Until someone can show me that, on a per capita basis, Tesla car fires are more frequent than any other car fire, then this isn't truly news.
In the last Tesla car fire story, I thought that the "burned for many hours" part of the story ended up being debunked ... I might be wrong about that. If not, well then that's concerning. But otherwise, I don't know if there's any cause for concern.
been driving my Model 3 Dual Motor for almost 3 years now, racked up 22k trouble free miles. the thing is just so damn reliable, i've paid nothing for maintenance so far, zero cents. they sent out mobile service to my home for the annual check up and that was free too. oh yeah, and it is as fast as the new Supra 0-60 with the speed boost i purchased i'm not an ICE hater like some of Tesla drivers, but Tesla has been rock solid for me.

Exactly lol. I too passed a car fire on the highway this week. No viral story.
Seems like every Tesla crash that is anything more than minor results in a fire that releases excessive toxins, and requires too much water and human resources to put out. Many of them also spontaneously combust while being charged. Clearly, Teslas are not safe and very harmful for the environment.

Yes, with the enormous flow of traffic in this area, there are vehicle-fires almost every day on the Beltway, 66, 270, and 95.....and occasional BIG fires with tanker-trucks.

Tesla batter fire in AU took 4 days and 150 firefighters to put out, and not a beep from Tesla. And the battery was brand new, as the batteries age the risk of fire becomes a lot greater.
A DUI driver crashed his Tesla and it caught on fire,
This is just one more reason, IMO, particularly if this driver had a history of substance-abuse, to start putting alcohol-breath-detectors in the ignition-systems of new vehicles. No, it won't necessarily stop drivers who are impaired from other substances (marijuana, cocaine, opiates, etc...), but it's better than nothing.

I'm not an engineer or electrician, but I suspect one thing that is making these batteries catch fire is the quest for ever-quicker recharging times for those who won't (or can't) wait for several hours or overnight. 400V chargers can do the job in about 20 minutes (assuming there's no fire)...but the more power you put into a battery, in a shorter amount of time, in an effort to recharge it more quickly, the more likely it is to overheat.

Nah, just the dealer trying to sucker you into buying the fire proofing package. Actually, maybe the Chevy Bolt could use something like that 🤔

No, the media just makes it seem that way. Many Teslas are involved in accidents every day with no fires. You're just attaching to this because you hate Tesla.

Yep, every day...no national news story, unless its a Tesla.

Regular car fires are easy to put out, did you read the part where it takes 40 times more water to put out a Tesla fire? I'm posting this because I am concerned over the damage Tesla fires inflict on the environment.
