How awesome would it be if the chip shortage continues, and auto manufacturers have to go back to building analog cars. Carburetors, analog gauges, physical throttle cables, direct steering, no screens. Wishful thinking, lol.

abysmal idea unless you like frozen carbs in the winter, rough idle with fuel injection, less than 10mpg, less power and torque, higher emissions, little safety equipment, etc.

I was mostly joking of course, but one of my motorcycles is carbureted and never fails to start in the winter, idles and runs perfect. Not saying it is better, but there is just certain satisfaction that only an analog machine can deliver.
If you like analog so much buy a car that has no electronics.
Why not a ISMA 470 Super Modified......Run at Sandusky & then load up the three cars & head 400 miles for Oswego....No electronics, just your basic mechanical injection, Magneto.....45lbs of oil pressure, hit the switch & your off & running for adrenaline filled night.......One of the most advanced analog cars there is........

Can someone highlight exactly what "chip" is I short supply? I work.in the semiconductor industry and we have already diversified out supply chain to mitigate covid 19 and other shortages last year. Curious what the car mfg are short on?

There are probably tens of processor chips in any modern vehicle, could be any of them.

I was going to ask the same what exactly is short? I know it's related some SOC that controls the screen maybe some controller chip but how did this begin? Did a factory shutdown during Covid and supplies are just catching up now? I never heard of TSMC shutting down or there's a material shortage that causes this?

Its probably better to get a horse and buggy to be really "analog".
