ive had two of them and both ended up complete and total disasters. had an 02 745LI that i legit watched burn infront of me, and an 09 760Li that was my dads that i got when he passed away.
beautiful sweet cars. fast, stylish, full of cool gizmos... NOTHING but problems. seriously, do yourself a favor. if its clean and running good now, it wont for much longer. sell it NOW before it takes a crap on you
based on this, i go back to my original pov. get rid of the 7, or both and start over.
Crap I picked which one to SELL on accisent, being the BMW. Easy choice. Not even the slightest surprise it had a VCG oil leak. Either get money for it if/when you can or keep it as a grocery hauler. I get the appeal of a large luxury sedan....I love them. But that one is not a keeper at all. Nice to sit in....but unless you have loads of time and $$$ sitting in it is all you will be able to do.
When I had my 745i, which I got rid of with around 50k, it had developed oil leaks that the dealer tried to fix several times with no result, the driver seat got crooked, idrive stopped responding, effectively taking out the audio system, phone, etc. A bunch of little issues that I can't recall right now. It got rear ended and I sold the POS to a body shop. A 13 year old 7 series is just not going to be reliable at all, its junk yard material at this point.
Are you serious? Did they check it over and find a bunch more problems? They obviously don't want it with that kind of offer, they know it will be a lot of problems, won't sell for much, the word is out on these cars not to buy them but still that offer is utterly ridiculous/insulting, they will still find a way to make a nice chunk of money on that car with that kind of offer.
I guess for $343 or anywhere near that I would just keep it and enjoy it, the car is worth much more then that and is much much nicer then even most cars out today.
N63 V8 engine is one of the most unreliable motors from BMW. Definitely sell it sooner than later.
edit: Actually the one in 2007 is the N62 which was NA. Still a terrible engine in terms of reliability.
If you like the car then keep it, just set aside some $$ for repairs. I doubt you will get much for it anyway, probably $10k or so.
I can attest to that. Coming from LS430,SC430, a few SC400s I bought a '11 550 and I spent more money out of warranty in 2 years than the previous 6Lexus vehicles combined and that's before the 550 hit 75k miles versus 800k miles on the Lexus cars/trucks
So I was recently gifted a 2007 BMW 750 Li with 84k. Drives amazing. Just had a bunch of work done. New tires and brakes among other things. Garage kept just over all fantastic. A huge car with a potent V8 and luxury you can really see and feel all around you.
I currently OWN a 2013 G37 sedan with a 6 speed manual(rare, fun car), with 92k on the clock. Reliable as all heck, mid size sedan with great power for a V6.
I'm also in the market for a house. So selling one is something I'm considering to buff up my down payment.
My question to you guys: Which would you keep and why?
Pics of each from the other day.
nice car, but the n62 engine has a lot of flaws and oil leaks will never be solved, you can pump all the money you want into it but in the end it's going to cost you 8k to $10,000 to fix the valve stem seals as well as a coolant pipe. Just use it as long as you can and then get rid of it, not worth dumping money into. Love my 550i but it's a countdown I'll it's mechanically totaled.
