I'm thinking of getting rid of my 2009 IS 350 I bought new in about 1.5 years. I'm pretty sure I want an upscale brand EV, preferably on a dedicated EV platform, since I only drive two miles each way to work. We run around with our kids on weekends in my wife's MDX. I'm going to seriously consider the Q4:
I wish Lexus had an EV, but I don't think anything is coming out for years. Even if it does, I'd prefer something on the smaller side and sporty, and who knows what it will be. Aside from the Q4, it seems the only other car to consider is the Genesis GV60. That has yet to be unveiled, but it's coming the end of the year. I've been following the BMW i4 but don't like it at all.
The Q4 e-tron looks mighty tempting and should be priced decently (said it will start at $45K before incentives).
Build quality and luxury experience from our e-tron has been fairly impressive so far. Not the most electricity efficient, but I'm sure the Q4 will be much better in that regard.
Q4 seems like it will be pretty good. The US federal incentives would bring the base model under $40k, which is a great deal if you want an Audi EV and don't care about AWD or really long range.
Pretty much any EV you get is going to be roomier than the IS, especially the rear seat. We had a 2010 IS and it was so tight getting little kids in and out of there. We have a Model 3 now, which isn't that much larger externally, but the rear seat is much bigger and easier to get into. Before the third kid came along it had become our preferred everything vehicle, whereas the IS had been relegated almost exclusively to a commuter car. Just something to keep in mind, it may happen to you and maybe you'd wish you had more range.
Tesla is, by far, #1 in the EV game; there is a reason for it.
You should at least drive one. We love our Model 3 but are not such big fans of the Model Y look. But owners flat out love 'em.
Good luck which ever way tou go and have fun with it.
I'm in the same boat. Closely eyeing the Q4. I would need the incentives to lower the price, so I hope that kicks in for us in CA. The biggest problem is the current field of everything going for sticker or above. Bad time for a new car. But even at sticker, I'd be willing.... so as long as the CA incentives offset it. I'm uneasy about it and need to research further.
Here's my take, being a current owner of a 2010 IS350 and two EV's (2020 Hyundai Ioniq and 2022 Polestar 2). The E-Tron is nice, but not very efficient and a little underpowered. I would take a look at the Ioniq 5 or Kia EV 6. Both have better power and range options are are priced fairly well. My wife's Ioniq, which uses the older design it shares with the hybrid is fantastic. The 5 and EV 6 are both designed from the ground up and blow it away. I would also take a look at the Polestar 2, by then will probably be the 3. I've had it since January and love it
I went to an Audi dealer back in Nov 2021 and put a hold to place an order. However, Audi has delayed the launch of the vehicle (and also has since raised the price of the trim levels). I was willing to take a chance on it given its an Audi product sight unseen, and also given the $7.5K tax incentive. That puts this car at a very reasonable price.
Maybe consider the Volvo XC40 Recharge. ($7500 tax incentive still available)
It has the same drivetrain as the Polestar 2.
From what I read, I don't believe Volvo was asking over MSRP.
But I know Polestar does not ask over MSRP.
For an electric car it's really slow. What's the problem?
The Audi is a beautiful German car, especially interior. It was developed along with the Porsche Taycan.
It is more lux than leading EV tech. Do not expect Tesla range and speed; that is not what you are buying.
