How do I stop Lexus from selling my data to harassing companies who call me everyday about my car warranty?

Chances are its zero to do with Lexus.

literally everyone gets plagued by these calls, and they have no idea if you have a car let alone if it is in or out of warranty.

depending upon your phone/provider you can send callers who are not in your contacts to voicemail or use services like nomorobo to block known or likely spam callers.

I agree. Auto manufacturers (and dealerships) are in the business of selling their own extended warranties. I don't see why they would give out that data so aftermarket companies can compete with them.

I just did a Car Chat thread on one of those companies, BTW, that sends out pink cards in the mail.

That's not how it works.

Dealers aren't specifically giving your contact info to scammers. They might be selling your contact information to some third party in batches, and then, directly or indirectly, it ends up in the hands of these "warranty" companies. Once your info is sold, the seller doesn't really have the ability to control who ends up buying it.

They have my work phone, and those calls started a year or 2 after I bought my Mazda (in 2012). The dealer only had my work number, and used my work number to set up my Sirius radio account.

So either the dealer or Sirius radio sold my info which ended up in the hands of these "warranty" providers. Not a doubt in my mind. (my guess is Sirius)

DMV records are public data. That's where they're getting it from. You can't really stop it short of writing to your congressman to write a law.

Except that the DMV doesn't have my cell# or my work#, where I get all these calls. I'm not saying that the DMV doesn't sell your data, but they are not the only ones.

I would report it to your cell phone provider, get on a do not call list, possibly contact some kind of enforcement if it gets too bad. They never take a hint, they keep leaving messages that this is your final warning about the car warranty yet keep calling back, if I was interested I would call them back/contact them, I am obviously not. It is basically harassment, I would never do business with a person/company that cold calls me, most people won't.

I am getting calls to extend a warranty on a car I haven't had for 2 years. It's annoying, but I either answer them and hang up or let them leave a voicemail. I checked all of the boxes saying do not contact me and do not sell my information. Guess what. It's meaningless. I could waste an *** load of time joining a lawsuit to get a check for $1.37, or I could just ignore them. I chose the latter.

Here's the thing: scammers that spoof other phone numbers illegally don't care about the do not call list, and cannot be traced by the authorities. In many instances, the number they are calling you from is a legit number owned by someone else. That's why sometimes it comes up with a name associated with it.

Where in the contract when buying a car from the dealer shows that we're opt-in for them to use our personal information to resell? Where is that consent??
