GM once put an old V8 in a Impala and called it an SS....Lexus put a 15 year old engine in this car, not sure it would be called ballsy. But, good that they did it.
agreed. It’s a lot ballsier to stick an engine in a car that has a higher potential to be a reliability nightmare. I mean who doesn’t want a car where every time you get in, you’re rolling the dice? Lol.

Are you really comparing a Chevy to the 5.0 V8 from Lexus? This engine is praised by every single person that has ever experienced it. Please go drive LC500 and report back.
It is ballsy because they didn’t need to do it and could just introduced IS Fsport hybrid instead.
An IS500 is just OK to fill a needed gap for the V8 engine slap into a sedan..
The GS / GS F is now dead.
This should have been the proper rebirth and redesign of the IS "F" after 8 years.
But this is what happens when one die hard Enthusiast / Lexus Japan Chief "F" Engineer retires..
Plus with the lack luster sales of the RC F / LC500 means they have some 2UR-GSE engines to move along.
I'm a diehard Lexus Fan & Enthusiast... But you have to get to a point in Life where you call it as it is..!!!

Yeah, the real issue with this is the long term and the future for Lexus.
As I stated before, having the IS500 is worse than not having the IS F in terms of what it means about Lexus' direction.
It shows that Lexus full well understands that there is a market for performance V8s across their spectrum of cars, but they've become so castrated a company that they don't even have the ambition much less the desire to make an actual F car.
And just to be clear, I wasn't going to buy one of these anyway, I'm over performance sedans. But this decision really in-your-face demonstrates everything that's been wrong with Lexus and TMC's direction for the last ~10 years.
I don't think volume will be the main priority of the IS500. Since it'll be sold exclusively in the North American market according to the press release, this is more along the lines of a limited production halo car to get enthusiasts somewhat excited about the brand again. Thus, the price will not be as cheap as a base M340i. It's special, and you're paying for that exclusivity.
I wonder what you will say when the new LC-F with V8tt comes? 😀
I’m 100% sure IS500 will be sold in Japan, Russia, and other markets.

I agree the Lexus 5.0 is great however the 6.2 small block in the SS ain't no slouch, significantly more torque. I doubt there are many people who disapproved of that engine after a drive.
Back to the car, couldn't be more delighted.
Lexus doesn't need a new V8, really. It's N/A with a REAL powerband and rev-happy, 7200 redline. Glorious.
I'm sure this won't be as fast as an AMG but nobody is going to care. Lexus is giving us a V8 IS.
I have hope that a TT V8 is coming.
Interesting that we had all given up hope, or most of us at least. Including myself in that.
So who's actually going to buy this? I sure as hell ain't.
*raises hand*
Actually called the local dealership this morning and asked my salesperson to call me as soon as the ordering tool goes live so that I can get one exactly how I want it.

People that have the money and want a V8 sport sedan.
I’m sure you will get some former M3 owners who hate the new BMW grill and C63 owners who don’t want a 4cyl hybrid!
I think the IS redesign was a knockout. Car looks amazing. I was disappointed in the carryover engines but in this case with the V8 coming, it's great.

Yea I'm super excited for this. I can't wait to drive it. It's almost certainly my next car. I just wish Lexus did this 7 years ago when the 3IS debuted. AJ, wish you the best on your back situation.

Exactly. I always wanted Infiniti (when I liked the brand) to put one of their V8's in a G sedan. The 5.0L VK50VE would have been awesome in a G but it never happened.

That was a dream, but instead they were happier making that IPL crap lol
