How does that even happen? I would think some kind of auto stop would have prevented it from hitting the Black car.

I can see how using this Gear Selector on the dash would take some getting used to, easy to go into D instead of R or vice-versa

Good Point, maybe this $180K Taycan didn't have PAS ?

'If Porsche Active Safe (PAS) detects that your vehicle is approaching the vehicle in front too quickly, the system issues an audible and a visual warning. Where necessary, this may be accompanied by a brief jolt of the brakes and the initiation of targeted braking. During this process, any braking by the driver is boosted to achieve the maximum braking force that the system is able to provide.'

Looking at an example window sticker looks like at least some Taycan's may not have PAS as an option ?

Hard to watch. Brake lights don't come on again until after the second impact. 750 hp or not, hard to stop without the brakes being applied.

Ouch! You can see how carefully he pulls into the driveway too...

Preaching to the choir. I never liked those E-shifters.

One thing, though....most new shifters today, regardless of the type, will not let you engage either D or R without having your foot on the brake. Somehow, this person obviously let the vehicle get away from him (or her)...which means that, unless it was a case of unintended-acceleration from a throttle-defect (which occasionally happens), bitkahuna may have a point about simply hitting the wrong pedal.

I think what likely happened was they were sitting there perhaps trying to get their garage door to open and their foot slipped from the brake to the gas

Automatic Emergency Braking won't overcome a full pedal depression in most cases.

Warn and Brake Assist is a standard feature on the Taycan. Here's Porsche's description of it.

*Warn and Brake Assist cannot prevent most collisions, although it may help to reduce their severity. In addition, Warn and Brake Assist may not detect every object in the road. The system may not operate if certain evasive maneuvers are performed by the driver.

Yes, some acclimation is necessary, but this one is fairly succinct, up for reverse, down for drive, and a full separate button for Park. Very early e-shifters (not porsche), Park was also selected through specific nudges on the shifter, most OEMs have gone away from that to a separate button.

Regardless if he mixed D and R, you wouldn't pull that kind of speed when you're already in the driveway

We have those gear selector in one of our honda and even my wife is no auto enthusiast knows how to use it, let alone a Taycan driver.

Like what SW mentioned, his foot most likely slipped from stepping on the brake and didn't get a chance to put it in park first.
