Default 2021 BMW M550i

Not the greatest detailed review, but the refreshed 5 series looks AWESOME!

To think this car is lighter and less expensive than a 2 door Lexus LC500 yet does 0-60 in under 4s!

Right off the bat, I could see one minus on this car (although IMO the E-shifter probably would also be one, if my previous experience is any guide)...those wagon-wheels and rubber-band tires are likely to be a disaster the first time they hit a pothole or serious bump. And you better have some good insurance for that, because new wheels and tires for that car are likely to further empty out one's bank account.....after paying a huge sticker-price for the car in the first place.

One thing, though, that is interesting is 0-60 in 3.4 seconds for a version that is not a full M5? That's getting up in Tesla Model 3 territory...which was arguably the fastest street-legal car I ever sampled, with the Mercedes E63 AMG not far behind it.

Those tires (275/30R20 rear, 245/35R20) have 3.2" of sidewall, which is plenty for this car. It's ever so slightly more than the 18s I've had on my car (3.1" of sidewall) for the past 5 years with no ill effects from Chicago's reprehensible road system. I hit one bump (gap of missing pavement next to train tracks) so hard it blew a hole in the sidewall. Wheels are fine.

I have less aggressive 40 series 19's on my 2019 5 series with no pothole issues. I like that they provide a very good (IMO) ride/handling balance. Glad to see BMW hasn't increased the size of the grill - YET.

I didn't watch it, but from experience the current 5-Series and LCI is at or near the top of it's class. RWD/AWD, turbo 4, turbo 4 PHEV, I6, M550i, M5 and M5 Comp. Great features, but the option list gets expensive quick. Steering gets tighter as you move up the trims, and suspension is mostly comfy on all but the M models for obvious reasons.

He sounds like that in all his videos, even when he's negative about a car. But the one good thing about his channel is that he showcases different trims of a car, not just the highest-spec loaded press vehicle.

don't know what LCI is, but about this 5-seires, i think it was refreshed for '21, and i just feel the looks on the one in this review at least, inside and out are AWESOME! the only option i'd pick differently would be replacing that brown wood trim with one of the other myriad options.

Great features, but the option list gets expensive quick.
the reviewer says the one he's showing which seems pretty loaded, is 86K which to me isn't that unreasonable for a smoking fast but luxurious sport sedan.

he didn't cover how it drives, rides, noise, drive modes, suspension setup, etc.

this reviewer i think is in car sales, but he's reviewed all kinds of vehicles. the style is pretty light for sure, but he's not a company spokesperson.

I have 255/40 R19 Pirelli P Zeros on My Volvo with 4.02 inch sidewalls.
Had to replace 3 tires so far due potholes that were not very large and at fairly low speeds. Did not have blowout, but resulted in sidewall bubble formation.
I can't see going with a smaller sidewall, especially in the Northeast area.
Probably be fine down South.

Modern BMW's all have run-flats, so ideally there shouldn't be a worry of a total tire blowout.

Didn't like the ride with the run-flats.

LCI (life cycle impulse-yup they really call it that) is just what BMW calls a refresh.

Our car has Gray Poplar Wood which looks good with the ivory leather. But it's really shiny. I'd prefer a natural wood finish.

love these cars, and the gap between this and a true M-car is getting smaller...but there is still a gap for marketing (and profit) reasons!
