Why do some Lexus steering wheels have more of a wood look, like the one in the above photo, posted by MMarshall?
As LexBob noted, that is not a Lexus steering wheel, but taken from a first-generation Buick Enclave. I posted it merely as a reference to the type of wheel that I personally think looks best. Like you, I am not a fan of the slick-polished look on wooden steering wheels.....and, like you, I think it looks too much like plastic.
BTW, welcome to CL.....I see you are a new poster.
What should you do if your dealer gave you a spec sheet for your specific car- with your vin number and it listed that your car has a wood and leather steering wheel, but what came with the car is a leather and plastic steering wheel?
Should I go to the Better Business Bureau?
What are the possible constructive recourses?

From the picture you have posted...if I would assume that the steering wheel is plastic.
Below is a picture of the of FAKE wood

It just depends on the finish color. Darker finishes you see less of the grain than lighter finishes. The wood on your wheel matches the rest of the wood in the interior.

Those are cars from the early 2000s when that style of wood wheels were in fashion (in addition to gold trimmed emblems). Nowdays, at least in the RX, theres nothing else in terms of a wooden wheel.
It was the OP's first post/thread on CL. The OP is probably not familiar with many of the things we discuss here. I see it as a legitimate (but, yes, unusual) question....just like the recent threads we had on shifter-types and dash-lights. We discuss everything from vehicle-names to what auto-executives smoke LOL.
