What exactly does a 100000 car look like anymore? I used to think entry level exotic, but nowadays its just upper end BMWs and Audi's. You can't even get a 911 below 100000, unless its the completely stripper model.

It sounds neat, but notice the first two times he does it, there is a long enough delay where one would be right in the middle of already getting in the car when it starts to rise. The third time he did it, it was instant. So not sure how this works...

SNL used to do a great Ted Koppel, Nightline skit. I think it was Dana Carvey, and he'd exaggerate the opening intro with, "I'm Ted Koppel, and THIIIIIIIIIIIIS... is Nightline. Our friend Doug here is doing the exact same thing with all his car introductions!

At the .50 and 8:57 mark...

I think there is still a premium feel and flash to the design that is missing from the A8/S8. That stripper model 911 still looks like $100,000.

Bit may have a point, Steve. Look at all of the six-figure vehicles we see every day on the roads around here, for instance (and you yourself were considering a 100K Range Rover). True, most of the country doesn't have the kind of money this area (or Silicon Valley, Hollywood/Beverly Hills, or San Francisco, or Manhattan) does, but six-figure vehicles are not as uncommon as a lot of people think. At one time, I thought that 20K or 30K was a lot to spend on a new car. Now, even the the average new vehicle transaction (for a purchase), nationally, is getting up towards 40K.

But $100k is not the new $50k. $100k is the new 70-80k or so if we’re talking comparisons made within the last 20 years or so.

One can go further back though... the LS400 was launched at under $40K i believe.
An LS500 with no options is almost twice the price.

They phoned this gen A8 in, what dull looking car inside and out. I can see why they sell so poorly now. What a absolutely horrible interior, so dull, plain, barren, and looks so annoying to use and live with. Notice all the ugly fingerprints at the 10:10 mark, just terrible, that is what you get when everything is touchscreen/shiny cheap looking black plastic. It is like Audi ran out of ideas for interiors and said, hey lets just get rid of all the buttons, switches, hide the vents because we don't know what else to do and we can try to sell it as "trendy" or "less fussy". A8's used to have some of the nicest interiors in class, now this one is easily the worst by far aside from the Tesla S if you consider it a competitor.

Why do auto makers think people want an amusement park on wheels? Do people really want this? Am I the one out of touch?

in what way is it an 'amusement park'?

as you're a big tesla fan, it seems that's more the amusement park with video games, fart cushions, 'ludicrous mode', maps of mars, etc.
