2021 Mercedes S-Class (W223)

Lexus pulled off the same rear look much better. Very lazy design with the Mercedes.
Now I'm curious about that dash. It appears to have two physical layers of gauges. What is the point of turning one plain of gauges into two? Maybe two steering wheels should have been considered too.
Overall, a low-rent in appearance. The front is an ordinary Hyundai/Genesis, or first gen Dodge Charger. The rear is no fancier than the current A-Class.
We shall see...

Ugh!
Maybe its time to see what kind of deal I can swing on a current W222 during this pandemic to scratch my S Class itch.
Seriously, that does nothing for me at all.

Its interesting how they've sent the pre-production model to the junkyard before the vehicle debuts. As a manufacturer, I think it would make the most sense to hold onto them for privacy or testing reasons, out of the public's eye.
I remember seeing 2016 Civic mules at least a year after their debut at the junkyard in Cookstown, Ontario, a few kilometres down the road from the Honda plant.

I love the center stack, but I'll need to see more of the rest. I like rich materials like wood trim in a luxury car. I can't tell if that shelf is wood or not. Hard to tell the lines and details with darker interiors.

Well Tesla screen is double the size and their tech is at least 10years ahead.
I’m not sure who approved this at MB but I predict a major fail.
This would be fine for their EV model but for 60-80yr old people that mostly buy Sclass, definitely way too extreme. Next 7series for 2022 will have huge opportunity to win some business.
Also they took out physical buttons from the dash but then put all of them on steering wheel.
i prefer this by far:

Wow, feeling the love for this new design.
tech 10 years ahead? I don't think so. Tesla blind spot detection - fail. Tesla 360 camera, uh pass. Tesla heads up display? Um, ok missing. A feature like mercedes magic ride control (camera looks for bumps ahead)? Uh, no. Tesla has a horribly misnamed "full self-driving" feature which is sort of like Cadillac's super cruise with now the ability to take exit/entrance ramps (which I sure as hell wouldn't trust yet).
What tesla DOES have is a fabulous EV platform and battery management. Over the air updates, too.
i believe you will eat those words.
60-80 is the new 40-60. tonight i helped my uncle do a zoom meeting with friends for his 80th birthday. We were able to share audio streams directly (without using speaker/microphone loss) so we could share some fave tunes. I think he could drive a new S class when it arrives, not that he'd be interested as are not most 80 year olds so i think your demographic assessment is a bit off!
this is nothing new, but the vehicle's "user-friendliness" will also depend on other input sources, screen, voice, controllers (if any). On the one hand you praise tesla as 10 years ahead with nothing but a few steering wheel buttons and a single big center screen yet you criticize this new S for not having buttons... which is it?
each new s-class has brought major innovations. And every generation has brought cries of "heresy!" This will be no exception.
i predict this will be a huge success.
