I was never a Lexus guy, so my first exposure was the 3IS and I grew to hate that car. I came from BMW, last one was a 10 year old E46 which I sold after I graduated college and got the Lexus. At that time, I just wanted to try something new after driving the bimmer for a whole decade and having dealt with the expensive upkeep.
The M340 has been a pleasure to drive hard, power galore and the tech is good so no complaints. This is my 4th 3 series and I wonder why I had bother to try the Lexus. Still, BMW is not for everyone, especially a die hard Lexus fanatic.

Though BMW does have a special place for me since my first car was a 1989 manual transmission 325i. I was a BMW fan long before I was a Lexus fan.

You pretty much got the some of the best Lexus possible but in most of the other segments, the BMW has a better product. I'm not a fan of the 5 series BTW...i just think in that class the E-Class is the best car. Of course it gets pricey for the AMG models.
First off, the majority of new BMW's are Leased, or rented, not purchased. Secondly, I'd like to see where you get the statistics that the average luxury buyer only keeps the car for three years. Third, what would be your definition of a Luxury car? I personally would not place a 3 series BMW, nor an IS for that matter, in a luxury car category.
I recently purchased a 2019 Lexus RX450h. FSport. Plenty of power. My choice: relaxing drive or spirty drive.. Super comfort and roomy interior. Toyota long term proven reliability.

100% Agree! Adding to that, no one cares about an IS here, this is about the RX & other competition SUVs. I recommend the negative post be removed as it has nothing to do with the topic of the thread. I look forward to hearing seeing more of this X3M in the near future!
Nope, it’s the naturally aspirated engine. My GS F is also more fun than the 5 series or 8 series. Toyota/Yamaha’s 5.0 V8 just sounds and revs better. Also, the steering feel on the 5 series had a lack of feeling as did their suvs and 4 series I had as loaners. I can’t comment about actual M cars. I should hope they would be much better. There are many articles that reference modern BMW’s numb steering. Now I haven’t driven the new 3 series, so I should hope it has improved. Steering feel and the experience of the naturally aspirated engine mean a lot more to me than an extra .5-.7 0-60. Not to mention what are the long term effects of the turbos on an engine? You can feel the heat coming off the turbo German cars I had, and the fans running a while after shutting the engine off trying to cool. The Lexus naturally aspirated non hybrid engines are nice and quiet after after shutting off. What are the long term effects of that extra heat? An interesting question. Now the M series SUV’s are very interesting because Lexus has nothing to compete with those. I’d like to drive one to see how it competes with the Macan S I had.
