The M340 has been a pleasure to drive hard, power galore and the tech is good so no complaints. This is my 4th 3 series and I wonder why I had bother to try the Lexus. Still, BMW is not for everyone, especially a die hard Lexus fanatic.
A used BMW our of warranty is definitely not for everyone, specially when one, you dont have an aftermarket warranty, and second, you don't have mechanical skills to fix it yourself. BMW's are great when new, that is why the majority of them get leased. Yes, they are exciting, but, they are not going to achieve the overall rock solid reliability of a Lexus anytime soon. The BMW forums are full of stories of different kinds of failures that are expensive to fix. Definitely keeps BMW independent shops and stealerships gainfully employed. The average 10 year old BMW will always pale in comparison condition wise to the average 10 year old Lexus.

The issue is that the 1 yr old BMW trumps the 1yr old Lexus to many people. If the average luxury buyers only keep the car for 3 years, makes sense that the bmw sells better.

Not to everyone. I traded a 2018 M550i for my 2020 LC 500. Ask me which is more fun to drive Though BMW does have a special place for me since my first car was a 1989 manual transmission 325i. I was a BMW fan long before I was a Lexus fan.

You pretty much got the some of the best Lexus possible but in most of the other segments, the BMW has a better product. I'm not a fan of the 5 series BTW...i just think in that class the E-Class is the best car. Of course it gets pricey for the AMG models.

And to me, driving a beautiful coupe like the LC is inherently more fun than a sedan like the 550. Just not comparable. Now an M850 coupe...

First off, the majority of new BMW's are Leased, or rented, not purchased. Secondly, I'd like to see where you get the statistics that the average luxury buyer only keeps the car for three years. Third, what would be your definition of a Luxury car? I personally would not place a 3 series BMW, nor an IS for that matter, in a luxury car category.

Default Another RX to cosider.

I recently purchased a 2019 Lexus RX450h. FSport. Plenty of power. My choice: relaxing drive or spirty drive.. Super comfort and roomy interior. Toyota long term proven reliability.

The BMW lease rate is 77%. The average lease length is 3 years. The average luxury buyer (or leaser) is therefore 3 years. I use buyer and leaser interchangeably...its just a financing option to me and that is it. The mechanics may be different but if you want to keep the car for 3 years, its the better financing option. Your definition of luxury car differs with the standard definition used by the general press so i won't argue that point.

100% Agree! Adding to that, no one cares about an IS here, this is about the RX & other competition SUVs. I recommend the negative post be removed as it has nothing to do with the topic of the thread. I look forward to hearing seeing more of this X3M in the near future!

Nope, it’s the naturally aspirated engine. My GS F is also more fun than the 5 series or 8 series. Toyota/Yamaha’s 5.0 V8 just sounds and revs better. Also, the steering feel on the 5 series had a lack of feeling as did their suvs and 4 series I had as loaners. I can’t comment about actual M cars. I should hope they would be much better. There are many articles that reference modern BMW’s numb steering. Now I haven’t driven the new 3 series, so I should hope it has improved. Steering feel and the experience of the naturally aspirated engine mean a lot more to me than an extra .5-.7 0-60. Not to mention what are the long term effects of the turbos on an engine? You can feel the heat coming off the turbo German cars I had, and the fans running a while after shutting the engine off trying to cool. The Lexus naturally aspirated non hybrid engines are nice and quiet after after shutting off. What are the long term effects of that extra heat? An interesting question. Now the M series SUV’s are very interesting because Lexus has nothing to compete with those. I’d like to drive one to see how it competes with the Macan S I had.

New 8 series is great except it looks very bland, LC shames it in that department IMO.

The steering feel on a F13 650 is "numb" for sure. Read the same on reviews on the 5 series. But, then again, it is a luxury cruiser, not a sports sedan like a GSF. For sure, the GSF outhandles, the 5 and 6 series BMW's. As far as the N63 and S63 (M models) engines, the engine design generates a lot of heat that makes replacing of vacuum lines a regular maintenance item. Not to mention the oil consumption issues with the N63 engine which was the subject of a class action lawsuit. It is a great engine, yes BUT, its not problem free as a GSF. Not bashing BMW, I love mine, but just stating facts. The handling on my X5M is great, specially given its an SUV. As far as comparison to my RX, there is really no comparison. An X3M, X5M, and X6M is an apples to oranges comparison to an RX. I'll put it this way, for my daily driver, hands down I will always use my X5M. Long distance vacation trip? I will use the RX.
