That's one of the GTI's trademarks....along with red-piping/stitching on the trim.
Nope. Absolutely loathe it. Would never even consider a car with those seats. My wife threatened to vomit when she saw one in the showroom.

That's funny. I love the plaid seats, but totally get how it could turn some off.

Agreed. Plaid belongs on a shirt, not in a car. Never liked it.

Sounds like you better take some Dramamine with you the next time you and her go look at vehicles.

Yes, I already said I'd buy one, just not one with the plaid seats. So that means an SE or Autobahn. Not a big deal.

Right but the plaid should be special order only... just having them on the lot will turn off a LOT of buyers.

Hot take: Plaid seats are really neat, and I'd take them.
(Spoiler alert, I will probably look like a bit hypocrite once I finish writing my new post.)

That's probably not a bad idea. I personally don't see them as a turn-off, but I'm sure that other opinions (like geko's) will differ. But, even though it shares the Golf's generic hatchback body-style, the GTI was never meant to be just another cookie-cutter vehicle, but something with personality.

They don't have to be special order, just one of the choices, which they are. You can get a GTI without them.
