The interior, no doubt. Exterior is hard to keep clean for long anyway.

I prefer a clean interior. That said, a clean, freshly detailed exterior is much more visually rewarding than a detailed interior.

I'm really surprised so many car enthusiasts don't seem to care about keeping their cars clean and nice...

Speaking of enthusiasts, I'm sure the folks at C&D, R&T, and similar organizations don't wash their cars every day....they abuse their vehicles more than most of us here.

Enthusiasts yes, but their cars are not their own personal cars and are more of a commodity that they test for a brief time and turn them back in and move on to the next one. The only exceptions might be long term testers which I'd wager aren't treated much differently.

Agreed.....you'd probably win most of that wager.

i think it's more important that the exterior be clean, and that the interior just not be dirty... the exterior is what everyone will see, what all the major design work went into, and will likely be the factor in determining whether or not someone even cares to see the interior

also having just a little bit of interior clutter makes the car feel more personalized and unique lol

My cars always look brand new. I never leave stuff out in the interior, everything is always put away, etc.

I just don't understand why people spend so much money on a car, and then don't keep it nice. You don't have to obsess over it, but run the damn thing through a car wash a couple times a month.

Interior first and foremost, mine is always like new, no eating or drinking inside my car. No junk inside either, pockets all empty except for last gas bill receipt and I do carry an umbrella in the back that rests behind the rear headrests. My car gets washed every two weeks, furthermore, nobody washes my car but myself.

Just to clarify, your vehicle, correct?....not your wife's minivan, with the kids.

Yeah no, not the van lol. Her car was similar to mine (not as neat inside) before we had kids.

I'm pretty sure the respondents aren't saying "I only do this and not the other". Point of the poll was to choose what you would prioritize. As enthusiasts, I think we all appreciate a clean interior and exterior. If there was an option for both, well, there'd be no point to the poll, lol

I agree. In fact my post specifically says "both". However, if I only have time to clean one and not the other, I think I'd take interior, especially if I am just commuting to work or if I am about to go on a long trip - it'll just get dirty again anyway.

Interior cleanliness has always been important to me, even before I would say I was "into cars" if you will. I hated riding with friends in college who just had all manner of junk inside their cars - I've even seen dirty dishes - and wanted to set an example. "Wow, your car is so clean" is something I heard on a few occasions. The reality was, back then, I didn't really detail-clean it much. The difference was that I kept it uncluttered - no books, bags, or trash were left in my car - and for most people, they perceived that as being "clean". I enjoyed that, though.

There are quite a few people here who say they rarely ever wash the exterior.

If I had to pick one, it would be the interior. I’m the one that has to sit inside it for hours per week.
