You wrote "A V12 is truly needed." which while it would be nice, you know, and i know, isn't going to happen. And i don't agree it is "truly needed". If lexus offered a v12 in a vehicle, it would cost a bundle and they wouldn't sell very many. Don't forget lexus had a hard time selling the 500 LFAs - it took years.

hell, the Lexus sedan flagship has no V8....but a Genesis flagship does....there is something seriously wrong.
Ha, i agree lexus should offer the LS with a v8 still.

More v12's are needed, huh? Bmw has announced it's dead after this gen 7 series. Audi i believe only offers it in diesel (thus dead in u.s. already). Mb offers it for now, but i bet it's headed the way of the DoDo as well.

IMO, despite the efficiency factor, turbos are more moving parts to wear out or fail, extra ductwork and hardware under the hood to clutter things up, more heat and pressure inside the engine, more stress on the engine oil (although today's synthetic oils are admittedly the best ever produced), and, in some cases, require careful start-up/shutdown techniques, although not as such as in the past. Most (but not necessarily all) of this is being done in the name of CAFE.....which comes from the government more than car buyers themselves.
All this is no longer true. Modern turbo engines are very reliable. Almost every engine in europe is turbocharged and they do great.

I've long-believed (and still do) that, for everyday driving, N/A V12s, V8s, and V6s are preferable to smaller engines with turbos.
Believe it all you want but anything 'long-believed' may end up no longer being true.

I wouldn't trade my N/A 3.6L GM V6 for any four-banger on the market., turbo or not...although, of course with some vehicles, you have no choice...4-banger turbos are both standard and optional, like the Lincoln Corsair, or it's a choice between a turbo-4 and twin-turbo V6, like some other Cadillac and Lincoln products.
No one's asking you to trade your vehicle in but i bet the 3.6L GM V6 isn't used much longer on cars like yours, if gm continues to make any.

I didn't say it was a bad idea, i said it's never going to happen.

Well, my view on this is certainly not alone. Even many in the auto press still prefer larger N/A powerplants to smaller turbos...as do a number of those here in this forum.

Today, it's GM's basic workhorse for larger vehicles, although the 2.0T is making big inroads. In fact, one of the few things GM has done correctly lately (after several disasters) is keep that engine in its lineup...it is a gem of a power plant. They make money with it because customers want it, it has an excellent reputation, and, unlike their new 9-speed transmission, is generally bulletproof.

I agree with Jill, I'm not even interested in the LS500, 3.5L V6 is pathetic. I'm shopping for Maybachs now, LS600hl was a terrible buy but at least it had the prestige.

But it is not supposed to sell many units, Toyota never sold many V12 Century models in Japan. Mercedes does not sell very many V12s as it is. I bet Mercedes sells more V12 models in the US than Genesis sells V8 G90's. The LFA was a bit of a waste of time.

I think the engine is what really sets people off.

Second, the inclusion of the remote touch (with the removal of the touch screens) was one of the worst ideas Lexus ever did. Then they decided to make turning on the heated seats a remote touch affair. No air conditioning button. No hard set vehicle preset buttons.

If you're looking for Maybachs you're in an entirely different strata. And what had the prestige about the LS600h? Almost nobody realized there was any difference.

I really dont think that it is. Everything in that segment now has standard 6 cyl power, and most of whats sold is 6 cyl. I agree they should have a V8 option like most do, but I don't think thats what holds it back. As someone who has bought 4 LS sedans and wouldn't buy an LS500, the overall package is the issue not the engine.

Remote touch has been around for 7 years now, if it were impacting sales they would know. In any event, they're bringing touchscreens back because thats where the industry is going.

AC Button? Zero impact lol What vehicle preset buttons? Radio presets? Lexus hasnt had them on nav cars ever.

Believe me, remote touch does impact sales, especially at the top end. I would've sported a GS-F if it wasn't for remote touch.

Then why don't we see sales down across the board correlated to the implementation of remote touch?

because there's different profiles. Rx buyers probably just go with it because it's a Lexus. GSF buyers are likely picky to the nth degree.

I personally don't buy that explanation. The GS' sales have suffered because the model is so old.

Urgh, that is not true at all. Each Lexus has moved up with the pricing, including LS but also RX is getting pricey too compared to old cars.

Their sales are up 10% worldwide this year.

Lexus will continue its path with mostly FWD based platforms with few RWD vehicles including their 600hp+ editions to soccer things up.

It is what makes them money, it has worked quite well for Audi and BMW/MB are moving there as well.

This year they might end up close to 800k sales, and that's with their most important vehicles being at upper end of their cycle.

All of that doesn't mean that they will not bring LF-1 to the production with several power trains, but realistically those models can do 30k/yr if they are lucky, rest of it goes to the base NX/RX/3/5/4/6/etc

Remote touch is the stupid touch pad right?

I do not know anyone who likes it, I know everyone who has it, HATES it

Honestly once Tesla is in full swing I'll be dumping Lexus and kicking it to the curb, the only reason I'm sticking with Lexus is my sales lady is a sweet heart and takes care of the short comings Lexus as a brand has

Its absolutely true. The RX is positively cheap compared to the entries from Mercedes, BMW and Audi. A fully loaded RX is $60k, that’s the starting price of an X5.

The reason Lexus vehicles are cheaper than the German competition of similar size is they are far less sophisticated cars. Paying less and getting less is not a value.

Bottom line is yes sales are doing well but overwhelmingly their sales of proper high end luxury cars such as the IS, GS, LS have been replaced with low end Toyota shared models such as the NX, UX, ES, RX, etc. That’s precisely my point, that may make them money but it means they don’t really compete with the big boys anymore.

As somebody who is one of those high end customers, they don’t have anything to offer me anymore.

Theres nothing “wrong” with that, but it’s a big change from where Lexus was 10 years ago.

Mercedes has three FWD cars. Small suvs too. BMW has them. So does Audi. I think the complaining is unwarranted. I hope Lexus makes a bigger body on frame LX to go head to head with the Escalade and the Navigator. A Lexus large crossover can exist too.

I still like remote touch. Even my wife, who went from an RX to a Highlander (touchscreen) misses it. I’d take it over a touchscreen any day.
