Like I said, the recession was not without effect. But I don't think it is a co-incidence that publicity of the 2Gen Tundra's failures also hit the news at about the same time. That certainly didn't help.

As for the 4Runner, that was also during a period when many BOF SUV-owners were trading in their vehicles for newer, crossover/car-based ones.

 

When the Tundra debuted 2007, it was having record sales. The recession really hurt every company.

The cross over Highlander went from 127.878 in 07 to 83.118 in 09


Anyways, back to the GM cancellation, this is definitely forward-thinking by GM, I applaud them for the decision.

 

Not all BOFs were traded in for Highlanders...and, at that time, the actual choice in available crossovers for buyers was expanding rapidly.

Who says a downturn is going to happen when Broncos are introduced? That's your prediction, not mine. In fact, that's one reason why the Blazer is not selling......a lot of potential buyers are waiting to see what the BOF Bronco will be like.

 

The real loser in all this is GMC. From the article, this would have been bespoke to the brand which would be a first. Rather than sharing with some Chevy cousin.

 

I think GM would make a Chevy model pretty quickly if it were a hit for GMC.

 

Probably, but since it's just speculation I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they would have done something right and made it bespoke
