That said, when we got our Model Y in May 2022, Autopilot was terrible and would phantom brake all the time. The automatic wipers were also terrible. They didn’t work when you needed them to and didn’t respond quickly enough. The auto high beams were just as bad and would regularly high beam oncoming traffic and cars traveling in front even. And if you chose to use Autopilot, you can’t disable auto-wipers or auto high beams.

As of now though I’m happy to report numerous software updates have happened since May 2022 and in present day, Autopilot no longer phantom brakes anymore on us, the auto-wipers work just like all the rain sensor-equipped cars I had previously, and so do the auto high beams. Really happy with the progress they’ve made on those features. They work a lot more like what I’m used to and how you’d expect.
great post, thanks!!! really glad to read the software updates have made major strides on those issues.

But now I've had a chance to spend time in a few 2022/2023 Model 3's and Y's, Tesla has rectified many of the issues, both from a quality and software standpoint. I now consider Tesla vehicles premium products. So based on this, this is why my next two car buys will most likely be Tesla's:

From a utilitarian view point, Tesla's are the best value

In both drivetrain, battery and software, Tesla is ahead of all other automakers

Their charging infrastructure is years ahead of any of their competitors
great post also... no question it seems tesla has improved build quality on 3/Y in particular. and i agree with your other points there.

I will not buy another car as long as they are sold through dealerships
the aggravation every few years wouldn't stop me for the right vehicle. i may just buy my suv at lease end (far and away my cheapest option) which should make things simple.

I'll give it to them on drivetrain but my colleage is getting 330 miles range on his Bolt which is way above what it is rated, he says.
Other brands will catch up eventually.

Dealers never bothered me.
If someone negotiates the best price for their wages and services, I see no difference when a dealer does it too.
Price is too high or they play games, I walk, doesn't bother my ego or stress level at all.

Tesla's sales model is good for their business since it seems convenient to the customer(big plus) but I never was a fan of the Carvana sales model and I'll be hitting that thread later. lolol

A quote from the article which is of particular note here:

"Price cuts can mean weaker demand, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, given that Tesla was able to take a greater share of an expanding market"

So if Tesla hadn't made the price cuts , perhaps they wouldn't have been able to gain market share? Which in turn fuels the repeated comments about "softening demand" for Tesla cars 😉

Every auto maker is furiously trying to replicate Tesla's softening demand.

You guys recognize you are the only ones talking about demand for days here... it's a circle of your own creation. Let's give it a break.

Hard to believe it's been almost 8 years since the first Powerwall.

Tesla is about to launch Powerwall 3
Tesla is preparing to launch Powerwall 3, the third generation of its home battery pack, according to information obtained by Electrek.

In 2015, when launching its Tesla Energy division, Tesla launched the first generation of the Powerwall, and it quickly became, by far, the most popular home battery pack in the residential market.

Shortly after, Tesla launched Powerwall 2, a new version of the residential battery pack with more energy and power capacity.

No more fog lights? If this is real Tesla is making a huge mistake.
