Finally left the ICE camp and bought a Tesla :)
This is what I find so weird. I just do not understand why people have this deep hatred for electronic versions of traditionally gasoline devices. I don't understand why its a "political" thing. I've had people make snarky political comments about my battery lawnmower lol
about 'green' or battery powered anything, many have/had a visceral (negative) reaction to being told what to do or preached to. i've switched almost entirely to electric appliances and cars because for me (not speaking for all) i find them cheaper, better, with FAR FAR less maintenance.
The next big EV from MB is basically how the 7 series is, they look identical. Or mostly.
Smart move.

Mercedes is going to take a somewhat different approach from BMW. They are in fact going to have separate EV and ICE platforms, but the cars will largely look very similar. Thats actually better than the compromised BMW platform which is what kind of makes the 7 Series and 5 Series look awkward because they are designed to accomodate both ICE and EV powertrains.
Best example of that is the GLC EV, sold alongside the ICE GLC

You're going to lose that bet lol. I'm driving my last fully ICE car, any car I buy going forward will be at least a PHEV.
If someone wants a PHEV, get it sooner rather than later. Cars are about to change. Expect more V8s back and (mostly) no EV push from anyone anymore. At least from the stupid ******* government. They lost.
If someone likes and wants one, you'll always have the option bc they aren't going anywhere...
But mainstream my butt, especially now. Cars would still be cleaner than ever even without ridiculous EPA mandates Uncle Sam swears we all need.

PHEVs aren’t going anywhere. You may see some manufacturers move from PHEVs to REEVs like Chrysler is doing, but PHEVs and EVs are here to stay. Doesn’t mean that’s all there will be.
And nothing is “lost” or over…big gas engines aren’t the future…EVs and electrification are.
Cars would absolutely not be as clean if it wasn’t for government mandates here and in other countries. History has never shown any manufacturer or industry that has chosen cleanliness or environmental responsibility on their own.

Mainstream? Not in this life. Americans are slowly getting good engines back. You think that people care so much about fuel economy. Some do, sure. Honda had to change the front end of the Accord, or the back end, or both so it won't look like a hybrid.
Time to ditch the turbos and go back to big engines. 6.7 Liters from GM coming. Hemi is back, MB has a new V8, etc. Like I said I may start liking cars again.
You said anybody who wants a PHEV better get one now, why else would we need to get one now if they were always going to be available?
They are already mainstream. EVs and PHEVs are everywhere, 20% of new cars sold are EVs or PHEVs…that’s mainstream.
Most consumers don’t care about “real engines”, they want fuel economy. All the data shows that’s what they want. We’ve discussed this before. Turbos aren’t going anywhere either, certainly not for any manufacturer who sells cars outside the US also.

Lol Steve you always do this, you just repeated what I said. EVs or PHEV are never going anywhere, ever.

I hate to break this to you brother, but the number one selling car in the world is a hybrid, number three is an EV. Even the best selling pickup is not a V8. I don't think V8'S are going away, but they will never be adopted by mainstream....gas is just to expensive. And also keep in mind, even if this administration makes major changes to emissions standards, they are not going to spend money and go back just to have a new administration reverse the old one. So far, automakers are doubling down on hybrids and phevs. You can look the numbers up yourself
Gas costs a fortune for you bc you live on the West coast. I hate that for ya, but it is what it is. I haven't gotten gas in a while but it's cheap again here. Gas is $2.20.
More people want V8s and big engines back than you think. See 2026 Ram. It would get completely annihilated at the track by the Hurricane but the demand for the (return of) Hemi trucks is off the charts. 180hp per liter is absurd in the Hurricane, I would only lease one of those. That's Ferrari territory.
I'd much rather have a big, lazy V8 that'll wake up when you prod the gas. And oh, the sounds and feel of a proper V8.
I haven't yet but will someday.
Closest thing to an Ev I've driven is my dad's 1st gen Prius many years ago.
I think it was in hybrid mode because I couldn't hear the engine when putting around at slow speeds- if it had hybrid- or the worlds most quiet engine so not sure. Lol
I don't care what the rest of the world is doing...people always do this. It's not happening here, that's for sure. I don't care about Europe where the government controls your life.
